We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andre Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andre below.
Andre , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
First and foremost thank you for the opportunity and taking your time to learn about me. Im from Northeast Denver Colorado (Park Hill to be exact) I have always known that I wanted to be a professional actor. I’ve known since I was a kid when I used to watch movies and envision myself playing certain roles. Growing up I had a father, but we did not always live in the same household, so I grew up in a single mother household in a neighborhood that was deemed problematic for minorities. I started hanging out with the wrong crowd, so my dreams were pushed to the back burner and at times I felt it was never going to happen. I became a father at a young age, so my dreams of becoming and actor never was a thought and for a while I just needed to focus on raising a child so I needed a job. I always had the personality of a class clown/dramatic kind of person and friends all the time you used to tell me, I can do better. As my kids started to get older I started to have those dreams again that maybe acting is for me. It turns out a couple friends of mine were starting to pursue the independent film market and asked me to be a part so I did and let me tell you I had so much fun. The drive was back in me and I couldn’t believe it. Now. It seemed like I could possibly pursue this dream and making my reality. After my second independent film appearance, my friends and family came to me and told me I really need to push this is that the potential was there so why not. I found a acting coach who really believes in me and agencies who also believe in my talents and this is why I’m pursuing what I’m doing now.

Andre , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I initially got into the business through friends who become independent film makers when they provided the opportunity for me to be in their films. The second film which is called someone to love taught me the discipline side of acting. I had a script and I had lines to learn so I needed to sit down and focus. I couldn’t imagine myself being in a feature project and making myself look foolish. I read over the lines multiple times at home with my wife and she provided me the feedback I needed to create an amazing scene and put out a great image not only for the film but for myself. I feel like me just being myself sets me apart from others. I never wanted to be like anyone other than myself and at times it seemed that right there was the perfect fit. It makes people love me for me and I seem to stand out in a crowd full of others. One of the things that I’m mainly proud of is that the fact that I said I wanted to do something and I’m actually doing it. I have my moments like others where I feel discouraged and maybe it’s not for me but then something inside of me pushes those feelings out and tells me to get back to. I refuse to be a person who just gives up and lives in the regret of quiting.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an actor is people recognize your quality of work, the compliments, the support, and the networking. One thing I love is where people will come out to me and they tell me that I give them to drive to not quit because they see I’m doing what I want to do so it makes them want to pursue things in their life that they always wanted to do and not feel limited. When you put effort into your craft people can see the difference and they will truly appreciate it.

How did you build your audience on social media?
So I started building a new following on social media when I started creating comedy content this was in the early 2020s like a little bit during Covid where the world was in such a dark place. Majority of the world was sick. We were losing people left and right. The political field was dangerous and I only had a vision to be myself and I was to make people laugh open, viral a few times in the responses were just amazing to my followers. It was needed, but to me it was just me being myself and putting in good in a video form. My advixe for followers is just always be yourself. Someone out there in the world can relate to you and the things you put out could be something that others can relate to and that’s how you will grow your following .
