Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Rudely Honest Podcast . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
The Rudely Honest Podcast , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
As of right now we have not been able to earn a full-time living from our creative work, but it is definitely a major goal of ours. I mean who wants to continue to slave working for someone else’s dream?
I think, as we continue to learn and grow in our craft we can continue to produce a product that will generate more income from ourselves, especially with the expansion of social media platforms actually paying content creators now.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We got into podcasting on a humble, about two years ago it started as just a conversation between the original hosts of the show, and we started looking into what it entails, a space to record, etc. and we launched our first episode about 3 months after that. As a collective we put together the visuals and audio/topics for each episode we release. As individuals we are also individual creatives. For example, Ezzy is an artist who also does custom sneakers/products in his free time; Shady is a unofficial poet who writes and publishes some of her work when she feels inspired to. Nocturnal is our music guru who has help A&R work, and he’s a creative himself.
Our authenticity is what sets us apart from others, we continue to be ourselves even as we grow and “get bigger” we’ve never strayed away from what originally made us start podcasting. We don’t let egos get in the way of the brand, and we can take constructive criticism from our peers, because we know it can only make our product better.
We are most proud of the fact that through our trials and tribulations we remain a solid group of friends, who also enjoy being creatives. We want our fans to know that our brand is strong, up and coming, fully us in the most “Rudely Honest” form.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think that society focuses too much on people going viral and overshadows genuine and authentic content creators and creatives, We think that maybe less clickbait trash content and give the good creatives a bigger platform.
How did you build your audience on social media?
A lot of our audience came from word of mouth from our friends and family, which we love, because most people’s core support typically will come from strangers and not people you know. Any advice we would give is don’t be afraid to branch out and network, through our journey we have been able to collaborate, and learn from other creatives who have been in this field longer, and they have been able to drop gems, and teach us methods to improve our brand, Also, networking with strangers can grow your brand faster than just sticking to your inner circle or core audience. Strangers will support and drop a bag quicker than your homies will share your stuff.
