Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cedric Newton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Cedric thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
In 2016 was on a deployment and hosted a talent night. I MC’d the event myself and in the process I was just talking to the audience making them laugh. People came up to me afterward and said “I didn’t know you were a comedian”. I always appreciated comedy but never thought of pursuing myself until then. At that moment I made up my mind that if the oppourtunity came about I would do it. In 2016 the opportunity came and I gave it a try.

Cedric, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As I said, I always had an appreciation for comedy and theater, etc., but it wasn’t something I felt I could do for a living. I got into comedy and performance once I retired from the Air Force. My journey took me around the world — from serving 20 years in the Air Force to traveling across the U.S. and overseas. Along the way, I learned that my voice wasn’t just for the stage; it was for connection, healing, and sparking conversation. That’s how my podcast and creative brand were born.
The “problem” I solve isn’t one you’d take to a mechanic — it’s about voice, perspective, and community. People are tired of cookie-cutter content. I give them something raw, funny, and thought-provoking that makes them see themselves differently. I’m not afraid to mix worlds — comedy with spirituality, street culture with scripture, and entertainment with empowerment. I can go from making you laugh about dating apps to breaking down the history of boycotts in the Civil Rights Movement, all in the same breath. My life experiences — military, fatherhood, relationships, travel — give me a perspective that’s layered and relatable across generations. I’m proud of the fact that I didn’t wait for permission to create. If there is something I want to go do, I go do it. And when I look back at the result, I have a personal feeling of accomplishment that fuels me to keep creating, empowering, and developing. At the end of the day, my brand is about growth and connection. If you follow me, book me, or tune in, I want you to walk away laughing, thinking, and feeling like you’ve gained something real. I’m building something that’s equal parts entertaining and empowering — and I want you along for the ride.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Retiring from the military after serving 20 years as a cop to deciding to go into stand-up comedy was definitely a pivot. Comedy doesn’t pay when you’re starting out, so choosing to pursue it over a resume that could land me in secure corporate positions making $80,000+ a year was not always easy.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I am still here, pursuing my dreams. Sure, I have taken a few day jobs in security and other things here and there but I haven’t given up on my dream. Still not making $80,000 a year, but when I was working security at a neighborhood, comedian D.L. Hughley lives in California, and saw him drive through the gate in a fresh new white Bentley with a Burgundy rag top on it after doing an hour special on Netflix, I gained the reassurance that it can be done.
