We were lucky to catch up with Baby Bishop recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Baby , thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I knew what I knew now back then, I would have started my career sooner than later. Music fans love seeing a young artist grow up in the industry grinding, chasing their dream. I lost a lot of time also by being in the streets, jail time, and putting my dreams on the back burner. I came up from a one- parent household but live mainly with my grandmother. From age the 10, I started writing poems. During that time, I was influenced by mother and step-father when it came to hip hop music. He use to rap and my mother was the singer. 4 years later , i started writing rhymes and bussing out freestyles here and there. I started putting my freestyles on SoundCloud when I made it to high school but it was mainly about the “beef “ Iwas going through at the time when I was 16. My music is really a reflection of my past , present and future.
I recorded my first song at 17 in a real studio, but I didn’t know anything about the business. I was just recording songs and posted them on SoundCloud.
From age 17 to 19, my music was mainly directed towards people who didn’t like me in the streets and people who wanted to actually hear my music.
But during those years, I was going through it. I went to jail, street beef got brought to school. And a lot more. . I was actually smart in school and athletic. I Had an academic scholarship and a track scholarship. I never ran track but they seen me run on the field . I was good in football in high school.
I was just recording music and dropping it on SoundCloud still at that time though . Trying to balance it all being a teenager is pretty hard .
On my 19th birthday, I perform at a show but later after me and a guy into altercation that lead to shooting. I backed away from music after that for a lil while but I was still recording.
From 19-22 , my life was pretty rough, kick out of different colleges, sleeping from sofa to sofa. Running through multiple women, drugs , money, etc. that took a lot of time from what I was supposed to be doing.
I didn’t actually started taking my career seriously til Iwas 22 ,Starting shooting visuals, performing at shows , learning the business side, learning to record myself and started going to major studios. I later moved to Atlanta and my music career began to flourish. I wish I would have took music more serious when I was younger instead of giving a lot of situations attention. But at the end of the day, I love where I’m at with my music career right now. I’m getting a lot of attention from shows to interviews to videos . Learning the business side of music was the best thing I ever done that helped my career. I have a manager, dj , producer and other artists. My favorite process is recording. I just love being more versatile and confident in knowing how to operate with my voice .
Baby , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Zaccheus Mclaurin A.K.A “Baby Bishop” a recording artist and the CEO of my label F4LWOLFGANG in which I started in 2019. I was born in Mississippi and was raised in Atlanta. I was influenced by my mother and step father record . My energy and love for music separate me from everyone else. I really love music . My music is for everyone from kids to senior citizens. F4LWOLFGANG is more than a label, it’s a lifestyle. It’s for individuals and collectives that embraces their individuality and stand up for each other, it’s for people who empower each other and encourages unity . It’s for leaders and introverts. It’s for the black wolves (sheeps )of the family. You can follow me @babybishop_ @f4lwolfgang
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn that not everyone have bad intentions when it comes to me. Being in multiple situations over my life span almost made me believe that people had weird motives . I been crossed out by people I thought I trusted and love from family to ex- girl friends to friends to being blackballed in the industry by major artists. A guy stole my swagger and call it his own .
A guy I called my best friend set me up. One of my exes was pregnant by the opp. One of my brothers laced me and even more.
But yet, I over came it all.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I kept posting and being consistent. I posted my rap videos, footage of me in studio , at shows , being funny , fans and me just being funny. I remember when I didn’t have nothing but a 100 followers now I’m at 14.6k . My goal is to get 20k followers by the end of 22.
