We recently connected with John Snow and have shared our conversation below.
John , appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I enjoy creative cosplaying and use it as a way to escape from reality. Every time I get a vision on a character or an outfit in mind, the creative nerves in my brain starts flowing in all directions. I enjoy going out and hunting for pieces to put my character/ outfit together. From thrifting, Facebook marketplace, bidding on eBay, or stitching/ sewing clothing. If it’s something that’s a bit difficult, then I reach out to good friends of mine for their insights and assistance.
As for being a content creator as a regular job? I can see myself doing it, there’s times where individuals as well as businesses reach out to me to create skits/ content for them. To me it’s beyond fun, because the creativity is endless. One of my most memorable content I created was at my favorite pizza restaurant “Meeks Vegan Pizza”. Where I was dressed as Spider-Man, sitting on the edge of the top of the building eating my favorite bbq jackfruit pizza. All while being recorded by a drone, with the downtown scenery in the background… such a dope shot by DIY Designs!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been cosplaying for a hot minute now, I was motivated to broadcast my work from an owner of a local comicbook shop. Byron the owner of Gulf Coast Cosmos, basically told me that I have a creative spirit and need to showcase it to your audience. And that sparked my passion on bringing my visions into life.
I use cosplay as a fun hobby to escape from reality, I love the endless possibilities on what can be made. From thrifting, hand crafting, or supporting other creators by getting commission pieces done.
What I feel that sets me apart from others is that I’m pretty much an open book when it comes to cosplaying. I do enjoy hosting cosplay meet ups with other like minded individuals. I’m not with all that gatekeeping nonsense. On my meetups/ gatherings I don’t look individuals “number of followers”, “how many likes they get”, “or if their outfits are spot on” and etc. I just want to create a safe space where there’s no judgement, and amazing people can just simply enjoy themselves.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To me the most rewarding aspect, is inspiring others to “create their own heaven on earth”. Yes adult life can be a lot, but it’s an absolute must that your keep your vision in sight, because everything will be alright. And this is not only aimed towards the cosplay aspect, but other aspects as well. I enjoy hosting vision board events, journal sessions and assisting individuals to let their thoughts/ creativity fly free. It’s your world yo! ^_^

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I love hip hop as well as anime. So combining the two together when it comes to my cosplay, has captured some attention from my audience. Music is such a beautiful art, so every time I hear a song that excites me. I ask myself “which character would fit best with this beat? And how can I bring a scene/ content to life?” And that’s when the creative thoughts starts flowing, and it won’t stop until I bring them to life. Lol it’s a beautiful thing to me.
So as for my advice, it’s simple; be different, be yourself, be unique. Avoid being sunken into “Omg how many followers I have!?! How many likes I got!?! Etc.” Yes creating content is fun, but do take a breather at times. It’s ok to unplug yourself, logout and go on a hike or whatever fun outdoor activity you enjoy. Health is wealth, listen to your temple, and take care of it. And it’ll take care of you.
