We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kriscinda Morgan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kriscinda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I knew there had to be a way to blend compassionate for patient care, counseling for well-being and ultimate natural health care protocols. The trouble was finding a way to do that in one setting.
Main steps:
Establishing a safe, slightly clinical space that would emit professionalism but no “stiff shirt” feeling or mannerisms.
Establishing privacy compliant office procedures but using a fully custom approach to each and every patient.
Key challenges:
Creating an affordable option for patients to be seen, practitioners to be compensated efficiently, maintaining low costs for natural health products with a no insurance “all cash practice”.
I would not change how I did it. The model works. Though our time is custom per patient, feedback suggests that it is appreciated due to excellent patient care given by each practitioner. We still have to work in a tight schedule each day, but seeing patients turn their health around in droves makes it worth coming to work each day. We went from just myself providing naturopathic care to now 5 of us practitioners working at near full capacity.
Advice to professionals who may be considering their own practice:
Don’t let locations fool you. Go where the people are but don’t be afraid to start small. A clinic that’s alive is worth the drive! When patients see lives changing, they tell others. Stay consistent and focused on rebuilding health. Look patients in the eye and don’t be afraid to get in the trenches with them.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into Naturopathy after realizing that mainstream medical options weren’t the only way to do health.
I left the nursing field to study natural medicine and obtained a doctorate, which allows me to render health care from a holistic standpoint. Because we are a faith based model, we do believe in Biblical truth when it comes to the body, how it is created and how it works. We believe that natural medicines were put on the earth for good health purposes and we want to foster that in the lives of the families we care for.
What sets us apart is that each of the practitioners here come from strong backgrounds and have personal stories of their own that makes them excellent care givers.
We see the evidence of healing and our schedule stays booked. That also causes us to stand out, even in a tiny little southern town.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Connecting and staying present with the patient/client.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The 2020 viral epidemic may have stunned the nation and we prepared for what we could.
We followed guidelines and wondered if we would see a drop in patient care.
That was the furthest thing to happen! We got slammed with patients coming in, scheduling their kids, cousins, parents, etc. We saw a world moving their gaze from symptom treatment to a desire for prevention. Now, people wanted desperately to know how to prevent issues rather than wait to get sick and then do something.
What spawned fear in most people actually turned into something that opened eyes to the natural medicine world.
