We were lucky to catch up with Ajani Colvin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ajani , thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was just a kid, maybe 14 or 15, in messing around with beats in my bedroom. I was this young dude, no fancy gear, just a beat-up laptop and some free software FL Studio, and it was cracked, you know how it goes. Atlanta’s music scene was buzzing—trap was everywhere, Future and Thug were popping off, and I’m soaking it all up, plus i was heavily into anime like Hunter x Hunter. Tokyo Ghoul, Dragon Ball that had me hooked Back then, it wasn’t easy. I had no money, no connects, just me and that laptop in a city where everybody’s trying to make it. School and family stuff were pulling me one way, but music was my escape, my way to say something real. I’m deep in it, tweaking this one beat. It’s got this heavy bass, a crisp trap roll, and a melody that’s kinda dreamy, like something you’d hear in an anime climax.

Ajani , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As an independent artist, I create and release music that’s all me: from production and lyrics to mixing and visuals. Then there’s the Infinity EP (2024), which builds on that with more experimental twists, like cosmic synths and anime nods. You can stream everything on platforms like SoundCloud, YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and even TikTok for snippets. I also do live performances and collabs, and I’m starting to explore merch—like anime-style graphics tied to my tracks. It’s all about creating immersive experiences: music videos with bold, colorful aesthetics that feel like stepping into a dream world. For fans and listeners, I solve that craving for authentic, vibe-heavy music in a world full of cookie-cutter tracks. If you’re tired of overproduced pop or generic trap, my stuff hits different—it’s raw emotion poured into beats that make you want to dance, reflect, or escape. I tackle themes like hustle, loss, growth, and that interstellar wonder, drawing from my Atlanta roots and personal battles, including vision loss, which adds a layer of realness. The Infinity EP (2024) and Phaenon (2024) is a close second, especially since it came after my vision loss diagnosis; proving I could adapt and keep creating feels like a win. Overall, I’m proud of the grind—going from a kid with a laptop to an artist with radio play, contest wins, and a growing fanbase, all without selling out. First, my brand is about authenticity and elevation—SaturnTyo isn’t just music; it’s a mindset of rising above, like Saturn’s rings reaching for the stars my tracks are for those late-night drives or gym sessions where you need that energy. Second, I’m independent through and through, so your support (streams, shares, merch) directly fuels the next project. Third, despite challenges like vision loss, I’m not slowing down—expect more releases, maybe even exploring accessible tech for new sounds or collabs.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Artist funding would’ve helped me get better tools to craft my trap and lo-fi sound. Even after getting a studio in 2018, I struggled to afford promo, music videos, or contest fees. Now with vision loss, funding for accessible production tech would keep me in the game.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
When people say they like my music or whatever i’m doing i really appreciate because i have a lot of self doubts about it sometimes
