We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lorenzo Scardigli. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lorenzo below.
Lorenzo , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m very happy with my job. It’s true that it’s unpredictable, but it also gives me the ability to decide how much time and energy to devote to it. If you manage these two parameters well, I’m convinced you can have plenty of free time to pursue your passions.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
It all started almost as a game. I was at a local bar one night and met an old photographer friend who was involved in neighborhood projects for people in need. It was a powerful and formative experience, and from that moment on I’ve always tried to work with street people, to photograph their everyday lives in all their contradictions. What makes me most proud is being able to connect with the people you meet, even the most complex or dangerous ones, realizing that often they just need to be listened to and are happy to be photographed and tell you about their lives.
I’m currently working on my own photography project “METROPOLITAN ANIMALS.” Through my shots, I have tried to communicate my personal vision of the relationship between humans and animals. The series of images captures and narrates the “symbiotic coexistence, which blurs the line between the two species.” Intimate and meaningful, sometimes surreal, moments we experience in close contact with animals. Man’s dear friend as a companion on adventures, the animal we eat for survival or for the pleasure of its flavor. The animal we fear, the extinct animal, or the one we don’t want to forget. The animal we depend on, or vice versa. I find myself in a poetic reading of my project, in which it’s also fun to capture the different interpretations in the individual shots.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The key to a creative journey is to never forget that this creative journey is simply our life, which is unique and unrepeatable. Our primary mission is first and foremost to ourselves, trying to become better people every day, embracing the world’s diversity, and learning to listen to what surrounds us.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is certainly understanding that the limits are imposed only by our fears… letting yourself go with your intuitions, without conditioning, often leads to realizing your dreams. You have to let your art win over your reason and you don’t have to worry about the approval of others.
