We recently connected with Megan And Cally and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan and Cally, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
We founded our company specifically to disrupt the interior design industry and re-write the narrative of what it’s like to work with a designer. There’s a perception that interior designers are expensive and sometimes a little snooty. It can be an unapproachable industry which we wanted to change because as humans, our environment has a huge impact on how we feel. We believe everyone deserves to feel good at home, so we created Live Simply to offer more flexible, affordable, and most importantly approachable design services to people all across the United States.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We’re Megan and Cally, college friends turned business partners. We both have had life-long interest in the interior design industry. After graduating from Elon University in 2020, Megan worked for home staging companies in North Carolina and Cally worked in NYC at West Elm. In early 2025, Megan left her job around the same time that Cally enrolled in a design course. Megan enlisted Cally’s help to get Live Simply Homes up and running and here we are five months later working full-time as small business co-owners.
We offer virtual, affordable interior design for personal residences and vacation rentals/short term rentals. Working with us is not the standard experience that you see in movies or on HGTV. It’s very real and there’s no ego. It’s almost like a friend helping you design your home. We never pressure clients into purchasing higher end products to get a bigger commission. Instead we source from stores that almost everyone has access to and can afford—think Target, Wayfair, and Amazon.
For anyone who wants their home to look or feel better, but is intimidated by the thought of hiring an interior designer, we’re the right fit for you!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media has been the best source for new clients, specifically Facebook and Instagram. We realized pretty quickly that our clients tend to be moms or younger people living in apartments or their first starter homes. So we post where those people already are— in Facebook mom groups and scrolling through Instagram reels. We have just under 17K followers on Instagram and post from our personal profiles on Facebook and 90% of our new clients are finding us that way. We built our business on a flat-rate per room model, so clients will also come back to us after we’ve done an initial room for them.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest thing we had to unlearn when it comes to getting clients through social media is realizing that followers do not equal income. One well-timed, well-phrased post in the right Facebook group can bring in 10x the business that a viral Instagram Reel does. So it’s been important for us to make sure we’re still focusing on design work and not letting all our time get sucked away by making content to go viral or build a huge following.
