We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Grace Rinehart. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Grace below.
Alright, Grace thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I was fresh out of school and so nervous! I had so many family members and friends jump at the opportunity to be my clients. That really helped me get comfortable massaging other people’s bodies and get to know how I like to give my massages. My goals were just to not give a crappy massage! I wanted to make people feel relaxed, happy, calm, or whatever they needed that massage to do. I am so happy that I was able to work on family and friends before having to reach out to strangers.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Grace and I’m a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist.
I originally got into massage after getting a phenomenal massage one day and having that change my mindset in such a positive way. I really wanted to be able to give someone the best part of their week since it was definitely mine.
I have another full time job that I love working in HR so I knew I didn’t want to massage full time or work for anyone else. I built my own in-home massage business with the help of my teachers and friends. I started to incorporate different modalities and now I have many different styles of massage.
I can do Deep Tissue, Swedish, cupping, DNM, and positional release.
I am so proud that I now have a set monthly client base that I have and can no longer take new clients. It gives me so much more joy to see the improvements that each of my clients are making every month.
My goal is to show up for my clients in any way that they need me. I have the skills to incorporate different things and adjust my style as they need me to. Being able to have the massage come to you – not having to leave your house- is a huge positive for my clients.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think being able to market yourself and be confident in your knowledge and boundaries. There are many people that expect certain things from you and if I don’t feel comfortable, I can tell them why and have facts behind my reasoning.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I started an instagram account and followed other small businesses in the area. I was able to record some of my sessions and put them out on my social media. People love to see what you do and not just read about it.
