We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ray Auger. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ray below.
Hi Ray, thanks for joining us today. undefined
Over the course of my thirty-plus year career, I’ve worked across a wide spectrum of media—from family-owned businesses to small companies and major media outlets. Through it all, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges traditional radio faces, especially with dwindling listenership in the digital age. I wanted to preserve the old-school fun and personal connection that drew me to radio in the first place, but I also wanted to adapt to the technology people use today. That’s why I took a leap and started Raydio, my own online station. It combines the energy and personality of traditional radio with a hyper-local focus, highlighting events, businesses, and stories from our community. It’s been an exciting way to keep the radio tradition alive while innovating to meet the way people listen today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my career with an Associate of the Arts degree from Dean College in Franklin, MA, and from there, I had the opportunity to work all over New England in some amazing radio positions—mostly on-air and hosting morning shows. My path took me to places like Concord and Portsmouth, NH, Cape Cod, Worcester, MA, and even six months in Salt Lake City, UT. Eventually, I landed in Milford, MA, where most of my family is from. My family name held some recognition in the area and made it easier to connect with the community, but over the next 15 years, I carved out my own identity.
I became deeply involved in community events, local music, and a variety of civic initiatives, which helped me build strong relationships and a loyal audience. That foundation made it possible to launch Raydio, a local internet radio station designed to combine the fun and personality of traditional radio with a hyper-local focus. We showcase local businesses, events, and talent, creating a sense of connection that larger media often misses while providing a great mix of upbeat, positive hit music.
I like to think of myself, on a smaller scale, as a community influencer—I’m proud to use my platform to celebrate local people, music, and businesses, while keeping the tradition of radio alive in a modern, accessible format. What sets me apart is this combination of deep community ties, years of on-air experience, and a commitment to providing both entertainment and connection for our listeners. The thing I’m most proud of is seeing how our work brings people together and supports the community that has given me so much.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media has been all about personality and community. I focus on using my own voice, sharing moments that make people smile, and connecting with things that matter locally. Being authentic and showing my true self has allowed people to relate to the content and feel part of the conversation. My advice to anyone starting out is simple: don’t try to be someone you’re not. Find ways to engage with your community, highlight local stories and businesses, and be consistent with your message. People will follow and support a brand that feels real and connected to the world around them.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
At Raydio, I don’t just work with clients—I build relationships with partners. I take the time to get to know them personally, visiting their stores, using their services, and enjoying their restaurants. I support their community efforts, celebrate their successes, and make myself available 24/7 to help them achieve their goals. By treating them as partners rather than clients, I foster loyalty and trust, creating long-lasting relationships that go beyond business. It’s about being genuinely invested in their success, and in turn, they’re invested in ours.
