Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to A.V. Hamilton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
A.V. , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned what to do by becoming obsessed with research about the craft, and taking piano lessons at an early age, which eventually led to me teaching myself to DJ and songwrite. I decided to invest into music school to take it a step further and learn professionally how to make smart decisions in the music industry as well. My learning process was perfect timing, and I don’t believe I’m ahead or behind in my process, but right where I need to be. The skills that are most essential even today are patience and humility. And the only obstacle standing in your way is yourself whenever you don’t have those qualities when pursuing anything.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is A.V. Hamilton, I’m a DJ and songwriter since the age of 17. I pride myself on being a great performer, who bridges the gap between retro sound soul music and modern pop and R&B. When I hit the stage, whether DJing or performing my own music, my intention is to engage the crowd and make an impact on people’s minds and hearts by making them move. What I am most proud of is my ability to super-serve my audience and to consistently overcome obstacles that are thrown my way, whether physically or mentally. What I want clients and listeners to know is that I will always give a quality experience with my work.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal and mission driving my creative journey is the mission of getting the listeners to feel something again. It is common in this generation to consume music passively for a moment in time, rather than spending time listening to music that makes you stop and create a memorable moment because of how it makes you feel. This is because of the ease of access that we have to creating music these days, and the fact that anyone can do it if they have the tools. So it becomes important for those who have been blessed with the gift of music and natural talent to work even harder to make it connect to the masses. And not just in your own area but around the world. Everyone craves connection and relatability.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes, in recent times I’ve had to pivot in the way I go about my DJ business and to really focus on my niche, or what separates me from other DJ’s on the same journey as me. I decided to incorporate bartending into my business, so that when people book me privately for parties, I can be a one stop shop, as a bartender and DJ providing the best service possible. I mix music and I mix drinks, everything in service to the people spending their time and money attending the event I have the privilege of working. This has started to separate me from others and really push my brand to become one that sticks out in the world of hospitality and music.
