Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deidre Roberson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Deidre thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission began the moment my son was diagnosed with autism. That day changed my life, because I knew I had to fight not just for him, but for every child and family walking this same journey. Out of that passion, I founded Moving Over Mountains Against Autism.
I work so hard because I see the daily challenges and the unspoken struggles ,the sleepless nights, the endless questions, the search for support, and the hope for acceptance. Families deserve to be heard, children deserve to be understood, and our community deserves to have every barrier torn down that stands in the way of love, inclusion, and opportunity.
My “why” is simple but powerful: I refuse to let autism define limits. Instead, I want to create pathways—pathways for children to thrive, for families to feel supported, and for society to embrace differences instead of fear them.
Every step I take in advocacy, every connection I make, and every word I speak is fueled by the love of a mother and the determination of a leader who knows change is possible. Autism doesn’t just touch one family, it touches us all, and my mission is to keep moving mountains until no one feels alone in this journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
What I am most proud of in my work is being able to stand alongside families as they navigate the often overwhelming system of autism services. I’ve had the privilege of working with parents in the school system, helping them understand and strengthen their child’s IEPs, ensuring goals are clear, and making sure their voices are heard at the table. I also work with families as their children grow older, supporting them in the transition from school to adulthood, and even guiding them through the steps of preparing for college and beyond.
For me, advocacy is not just a title, it’s a calling. Every child deserves a chance to thrive, and every family deserves someone who will stand beside them, fight for them, and remind them that they are not alone. That’s why I do what I do every single day, and it will always be my proudest work.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What truly helped me build my reputation within the autism community is not just my passion, but the work I’ve committed to doing right here in Augusta. I was blessed to start the first-ever Autism Walk in Augusta, Georgia, creating a space where families could come together, raise awareness, and celebrate our loved ones with autism. That event opened doors for connection and gave our community a visible voice.
In addition, I host an annual Autism Breakfast, which has become one of my proudest traditions. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a time for families, educators, and advocates to gather, share resources, and build lasting bonds of support.
These events have not only raised awareness, but they’ve also built bridges. They’ve shown families that they are seen, valued, and supported, and that together, we can move mountains against autism.
