We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sherika Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sherika , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Yes, I absolutely wish I had started my business earlier. Back when I was working as a Credit Card Manager at Wells Fargo, I had the stability of guaranteed income that I could have leveraged to invest more heavily into my business and into myself. At that time, I didn’t fully realize the importance of planting those seeds sooner.
In April of 2024, I was laid off, and that unexpected transition thrust me into full-time ministry and entrepreneurship. What felt like a setback actually became a divine setup for me to step fully into my purpose. By October 2024, I officially launched my business, The Kingdom Journey, and since then I’ve been building with a renewed sense of faith, vision, and determination.
Looking back, starting earlier would have allowed me to take advantage of resources and opportunities I had access to at the time, but I also believe the timing of my journey carries purpose. The layoff was the catalyst I needed to finally bet on myself, and it pushed me to walk boldly in the entrepreneurial path I was called to.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a woman of God who has a deep passion for seeing others win in life. I consider myself determined, driven, and multi-faceted—working as a tax preparer, notary, and entrepreneur. Before stepping into this new season of entrepreneurship, I had to first break free from fear and embrace faith on a greater level.
Fashion has always been close to my heart, especially apparel with meaningful words. I’m a firm believer that life and death are in the power of the tongue, and what we see and meditate on eventually shapes our thoughts and words. That belief inspired me to create The Kingdom Journey, a brand that produces faith-based T-shirts, mugs, and other products that speak life and purpose.
I also launched Vanessa Eyewear, named after my grandmother. “Vanessa” means butterfly, and I truly believe that every woman who puts on a pair of these frames will experience a transformation in confidence—empowering them to boldly step into their God-given calling. Beyond products, my mission is to help others shape their identity through the lenses of God.
My entry into this industry started with researching how to launch an online store, exploring dropshipping, and connecting with vendors for my eyewear. Along the way, I was blessed to be surrounded by other entrepreneurial women who shared invaluable advice and connections—true destiny helpers. Today, I’m also working on a book and a course centered on helping women find their identity and wholeness in Christ, apart from titles, roles, or the validation of others.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve stepped out on faith, released fear, and committed to pursuing multiple streams of income while breaking generational curses I’ve prayed about for years. More than anything, I want potential clients, followers, and supporters to know that my goal is to motivate, encourage, and even walk alongside them on their journey of identity in Christ and self-love—no matter what they’ve faced in life. I also want them to know that I can support them with their tax preparation and notary needs, providing professional services that bring peace of mind and excellence to their everyday lives.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the 9-to-5 mindset. For years, I found comfort in the stability of a traditional job—knowing that no matter what, a paycheck would be deposited every two weeks. That sense of security made it easy to stay within the system, even when I knew I was called to more.
Stepping into entrepreneurship forced me to completely shift my thinking. There’s no guaranteed check waiting at the end of the week—you are the foundation, the builder, and the driver of the vision. I had to learn that the same energy, dedication, and excellence I once gave to corporate America had to now be invested into myself and my own business. Instead of working hard to build someone else’s dream, I’ve embraced the responsibility of going just as hard—if not harder—for my own.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective strategies I’ve used to grow my clientele has been running targeted ads. Not only has this allowed me to reach new audiences, but it also helps me capture emails so I can continue building relationships and staying connected beyond the first interaction.
Equally important has been the power of community. Surrounding myself with my SHEceo sisters—a group of dynamic women entrepreneurs who focus on networking and empowerment in the marketplace—has provided me with referrals, support, and accountability. That combination of strategic marketing and intentional community has been key to both attracting new clients and sustaining long-term growth.
