We recently connected with Paige Schmidt – S.C.U.L.P.T. and have shared our conversation below.
Paige, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I have both a Facebook and Instagram business page that I manage on my own. I made the choice to manage it on my own because I decided to put money elsewhere in my business to help it grow. I have gotten a good amount of traction relative to the amount that I post, followers that I have, etc. But I know that there is potential to make it grow more than it has and to get an even larger benefit from free marketing online. So with that being said, I am not against hiring help moving forward. The biggest thing that I have learned about managing my social media is that it does take up a lot of time! Especially when posting with purpose. There is a lot that goes into it, like making sure that I get all of the right angles, having the perfect hook to gain peoples attention within the first 2 sec, and making sure that the quality of content is good. A lot of it can be trial and error. So if I post a reel that is a hit, I will go back and see what it was that made people like it and try to go off of that. Another important thing to me when it comes to social media is making sure that I stay true to who I am. I want people to see my personality and style of training, but I won’t post anything that goes outside of my character just for the sake of getting likes. My goal in everything that I post is to educate and inspire.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I am so proud of the fact that my biggest source of finding new clients has been through word of mouth. I am thankful that my clients talk about me and want to see my succeed. It so much harder for a small business to get exposure so everything single thing that clients share with others is amazing to me. And in my opinion, word of mouth is the best way to grow!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
COVID caused me to pivot my business greatly. I went from training clients in gyms to meeting them in parks, and doing online and virtual training. It completely switched up how I interact with clients and the set up for my business. I had to really adapt my business to what was going on in the world at the time. I am very grateful that my clients had an open mind to the style of training that we did during that time. I kind of look at COVID as a blessing in disguise as it pertains to my business because it forced me to get outside of my comfort zone with how I train a little bit. I didn’t offer online and virtual training prior to COVID, where as now I still have it as an option. The more services that I offer, the more people I am able to reach.
