We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amber “Sunnie” Owens. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amber “Sunnie” below.
Hi Amber “Sunnie”, thanks for joining us today. undefined
Innovation isn’t always about inventing something brand new — often it’s about finding creative ways to solve problems people face every day. At Sunnie Cosmetics, I’ve built my business around the idea that how you look affects how you feel, and how you feel impacts how you show up in life.
One of the most innovative things I’ve done is approach skincare not just as products, but as a full lifestyle transformation. For example, when clients come to me struggling with acne, I don’t just provide them with a cleanser or serum. I take it as a challenge to transform their skin by combining targeted products with education on healthy routines, nutrition, and self-care.
I’ve met clients whose confidence grew right in front of me as their appearance improved — and that has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Over time, I’ve seen people’s skin completely transform, and with it, their outlook on themselves. To me, that’s the most inspiring form of innovation: creating safe, gentle, and long-term solutions that change lives. Watching someone come back for their monthly facial glowing — inside and out — is proof that innovation can be deeply personal. That’s the kind of impact I strive for with Sunnie Cosmetics.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Amber ‘Sunnie’ Owens, and I’m the founder of Sunnie Cosmetics. I’ve always believed that skincare and beauty are forms of self-care and self-expression that can truly transform how people show up in the world. That passion led me into the industry, where I’ve been able to build a brand centered on results, education, and empowerment.
Sunnie Cosmetics offers more than just skincare products and facials. I provide spa parties for kids, teens, and adults, one-on-one and group makeup classes, professional waxing services, pop-up shops, and even in-store beauty shopping help to guide clients toward the best products for their skin. I’ve also had the honor of being invited to speak at high schools, where I educate students on proper skincare and daily habits to improve their skin long-term. These experiences allow me to connect with people at every stage of life, building confidence and knowledge in a fun, approachable way.
This February, Sunnie Cosmetics proudly celebrated 5 years in business — a milestone that reflects consistency, growth, and the trust my clients have placed in me. What I’m most proud of is the impact Sunnie Cosmetics has had — helping people develop healthier routines and giving them the tools to care for their skin with confidence.
At the heart of Sunnie Cosmetics is empowerment, education, and results. I want potential clients and followers to know that this brand is about more than skincare — it’s about building confidence, creating community, and celebrating beauty at every stage of life.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
When I first had the idea for Sunnie Cosmetics, I didn’t have a large amount of capital saved up, so I decided to take a leap of faith and launch a GoFundMe campaign. The outpouring of love and support I received from my community was incredible — people believed in my vision, and that belief became the seed money to start my business.
From there, I began building the line in 2019. At the time, I had little product knowledge beyond the basics — cleanse, tone, moisturize — but I had a dream and the determination to make it happen. With the guidance of my bonus mom, who has experience in business start-ups, I learned how to put the pieces together and officially launched Sunnie Cosmetics in February 2020.
I started with just 4 products, and with the continued support of my community, we’ve now grown to 21. Sunnie Cosmetics is truly built on faith, hard work, and the belief others had in me from the very beginning. In January 2021, I decided I needed deeper knowledge in skincare to continue growing, so I enrolled in esthetician school, which gave me the foundation to expand the line and elevate my services.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the biggest tests of my resilience came just after launching Sunnie Cosmetics in February 2020 — right before the pandemic hit. I had finally taken the leap, launched my first 4 products, and was ready to share them with the world. Suddenly, everything shut down, and for a moment, I questioned if my dream could even survive.
Instead of giving up, I decided to push harder. I focused on building my online presence, connected with my community virtually, and used that time to study, learn, and improve my craft. That decision not only helped me grow, but it also positioned my brand for long-term success.
For me, resilience meant not letting circumstances stop me but finding ways to adapt and come back stronger. Sunnie Cosmetics is still standing 5 years later because I refused to quit when things got hard.
