We recently connected with Tanya Michelle and have shared our conversation below.
Tanya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I was always in the restaurant/hospitality indrusty because I was a young single mom and that was were I could work the hours I needed while being able to do my mom duties during the day. I kept feeling like something was missing when I went to work everyday. I wanted more freedom and the chance to create something of my own. One day I realized the bigger risk was staying comfortable but unfulfilled. That’s when I decided to bet on myself, go back to school and start my business.
The biggest risk was financial—I invested my everything I had into school so I knew to start my own business I would have to continue working full time while starting up from scratch. There was also the emotional risk of walking away from a stable path and wondering, ‘What if I fail?’ But I reminded myself that every big dream comes with uncertainty, and the risk was worth the potential reward. I reminded myself that fear is normal—it means you care. Instead of waiting to feel ‘ready,’ I focused on small, consistent steps. I laid awake many nights wondering if all this was worth it. The time from my kids, the late nights. There was a few times I always threw the towel in and said this isn’t for me.
I’ve learned that failure isn’t the opposite of success—it’s part of the journey. Every challenge has taught me something valuable about resilience, problem-solving, and trusting myself. The leap was scary, but it opened doors I never would’ve seen otherwise.
Looking back now, 3 years into finishing my school and starting my own business. Even on the hardest days, I’d rather take the risk on myself than wonder ‘what if.’ Starting this business has been one of the most challenging but also most rewarding decisions of my life. Don’t wait for the perfect time—it doesn’t exist. Start small, validate your idea, and create a safety net if you can. Most importantly, trust yourself. The leap won’t feel safe, but once you take it, you’ll find the path builds itself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey into this industry started when I had went to nursing school and got my degree, in a short period time after getting my degree I realized nursing wasn’t quite for me. I was always intrigued by injectables (Botox, Dermal Fillers, Body Sculpting Injections) but wasn’t sure how to get into that field. A friend of mine was going to school to be an Esthetician and while I was modeling for one of her services she told me to look into esthetics for the injectables field. So that is when I started my school journey again, received my Basics Course Certificate and then went back for the advanced classes for Injectables (basic & advanced), Permanent Make Up, Microneedling, Chemical Peels and a few others.
About half way through school is when I started thinking about how I was going to brand myself and my business. I was so nervous about taking a gamble like this…
I soon realized Injectables was a HUGE market so I needed to really stand out! What began as a passion quickly grew into a business, because I saw how much people truly loved feeling great about themselves and I was able to be apart of that! What makes my work meaningful is that I don’t just deliver a product or service. I help clients feel good about living in their own skin again, like saving them time, helping them grow, bringing them confidence, or improving their lifestyle.
What sets me apart is for me, it’s not just about doing business, it’s about building relationships and creating lasting impact. I believe empowerment all of Nior Skyn & Beauty’s clients.
I’m most proud of my growth, not just as a business owner but as a woman as well, all the milestones and even the down falls of this journey, the courage to take the leap into entrepreneurship. Those moments remind me why I started this journey in the first place.
If there’s one thing I want potential clients and followers to know, it’s this: At Nior Skyn & Beauty I’m here to help you feel confident, simplify your beauty routines, or turn your Skin vision into reality. My work isn’t just about the service or product, it’s about creating transformation and helping others love themselves again.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first started Nior Skyn & Beauty, I underestimated how tough the early months would be. I had invested all the money and time I had, and there were weeks when I wasn’t sure how I was going to cover expenses. On top of that, I faced a lot of rejection—people weren’t sure they could trust someone new in the industry.
Instead of giving up, I doubled down on listening to feedback, refining my offers, and showing up consistently. I reached out to mentors, networked relentlessly, and stayed focused on the bigger vision even when the short-term felt discouraging.
Eventually, those small consistent steps began to pay off. I landed my first major client, and from there the business started gaining traction. The biggest lesson I took from that period is that resilience isn’t about being fearless—it’s about continuing to move forward, even when fear and doubt are loud. That experience proved to me that I can handle setbacks and come back stronger every time.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When Nior Skyn & Beauty was founded, I didn’t have a financial cushion. Honestly, I was broke—but what I did have was determination and creativity. Instead of waiting for the ‘perfect’ time or big investors, I asked myself, ‘What can I do with what I already have?’
I started small and lean. I cut down on expenses, reinvested any money I earned right back into the business, and leaned on free or low-cost tools. I also took on side hustles and short-term gigs to keep myself afloat while building the foundation of my business.
It wasn’t easy, but starting broke forced me to be scrappy and innovative. I learned how to stretch every dollar, focus on what really matters, and prove that sometimes resourcefulness can be even more powerful than having a big budget. That mindset not only helped me launch—it made me stronger as an entrepreneur.
