We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sophy Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sophy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My legacy is rooted in resilience, faith, and love. I want to be remembered as someone who turned personal pain into purpose, someone who showed that even in the darkest seasons, God can bring light and new life. When people think of me, I hope they see a woman who lived out her faith with integrity, who built spaces where others could heal, grow, and lead, and who made love the foundation of everything she touched.
For me, legacy isn’t just about what I leave behind—it’s about who I build up along the way. Whether it’s widows walking through grief, athletes finding their voice, or families securing their future, I want people to remember that I poured into others so they could stand stronger. My story is living proof that ‘the roots they couldn’t kill’ (sub title of my debut book) became seeds of hope for generations to come. If my life points people back to God’s strength, resilience, and unconditional love, then I know I’ve left the right kind of legacy.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I often say that I didn’t choose this work—this work chose me. My journey into this industry was birthed out of personal loss and a deep desire to turn grief into something redemptive. When my husband, Brian, passed away, I was faced with a choice: to stay buried in pain or to allow God to use my story as a testimony. That’s when I began speaking, writing, and creating spaces where others could process grief, rediscover resilience, and step into their purpose.
Today, I’m the founder of The Common Wealth Group, LLC , Cohost of the “Heartprints of Loss Podcast (w/two other widows) and The Brian Thomas Legacy Foundation (501C) and serve as a project manager and strategic partner for high-impact leaders. My work spans across keynote speaking, high-ticket coaching programs, book and curriculum development, and mastermind events. Through my company, we help leaders, athletes, and visionaries monetize their message by building books, courses, and digital ecosystems that allow their story to live beyond them. On the personal development side, I create digital resources, guided journals, online communities, and retreats to help individuals process grief, build resilience, and reconnect with God.
The problems I solve are twofold: for organizations and leaders, it’s about building legacy and scalable systems; for individuals, it’s about emotional healing, spiritual grounding, and resilience. What sets me apart is the way I weave faith, storytelling, and strategy together—I don’t just teach business, I nurture souls; I don’t just talk about resilience, I embody it.
I’m most proud that the very thing that tried to break me became the foundation of my calling. I want potential clients and followers to know that my work isn’t about me—it’s about them. It’s about equipping people with the tools, strategies, and encouragement they need to walk boldly in their assignment, to heal where they’ve been broken, and to build a legacy that outlives them. At the end of the day, my brand is about resilience, my work is about transformation, and my heart is about legacy.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the most defining moments of my resilience came after my husband, Brian, passed away. I remember waking up in the mornings with an unbearable weight on my chest, feeling like I couldn’t breathe, let alone lead my family or serve others. There was one particular day when the anxiety of him being gone was so overwhelming that I broke down completely—I told him on a call years prior how much I feared being without him. And in that moment, he spoke words I never forgot: ‘My prayer is that you yearn for God more than you yearn for your own husband. I am only a resource—but God is your ultimate source.’
Those words became an anchor in the storm. When grief tried to paralyze me, I leaned on that truth. I chose to seek God in the ‘in-between spaces’—between what I lost and what I didn’t yet see. Out of that brokenness came my book, my foundation, and the programs. That moment taught me that resilience isn’t about pretending you’re strong—it’s about surrendering to the Source of strength and allowing God to turn your deepest pain into purpose. That’s the story I carry into every room I enter.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals and word of mouth have been the greatest drivers of growth for me. When you operate with integrity and consistently deliver high-quality products and experiences, people naturally want to share that with others. Excellence speaks for itself, and the trust you build becomes the bridge to your next opportunity.
