We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful TOMMY BROWN. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with TOMMY below.
Alright, TOMMY thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea in 1986 while serving in the United States Marine Corps. At the time, I was attending night school, studying for my Associate Degree of Applied Science in Business Administration at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona. Many of my fellow students complained about the lack of assistance from their high school academic counselors to prepare them for college. The primary topics of discussion were how to obtain scholarships and financial assistance.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry by accident. From 1986 to 1991, I attended night school at Arizona Western College and served in the United States Marine Corps in MCAS Yuma, Arizona. During this time, I had a knack for problem-solving and providing academic advice to my fellow Marines, Sailors, and anyone willing to listen. I would show them how to research a problem. By teaching others how to solve problems help build their confidence. I always love to feeling of empowering others to research topics of discussion on their own. Empowering knowledge, positive energy, and self-worth enables an individual the confidence to conquer the world on their terms.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The best story that relates to my resilience has to be in the year 1991 when I earned my Associate Degree of Applied Science in Business Administration at Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ. I started taking night classes in 1986 and graduated in 1991. During the period of study, the challenge was to maintain the responsibilities of being a U. S. Marine, where I trained in the desert, deployed to Okinawa, and served during the first Gulf War. Base regulations prohibited Marines with the rank of Lance Corporals and below (E-3 to E1) from having a vehicle on base. This meant I had to ride my 10-speed bike to school, which was 10-mile journey in the desert. I also rode my bike to attend night classes at Kofa High School in Yuma, AZ, which was also 10-mile distance. But the most unique part of this story was when I went to my Academic Counselor and told her I wanted to graduate in the summer before my transfer to Camp Lejeune. She began to do her normal routine of explaining my academic as she does with any first-time student. I immediately stopped her and explained that I have already taken the required courses and just need to take 2 more classes and for her to sign my paperwork for graduation. She looked at me and asked, “You mean to tell me you attended all these classes for 5 years without any help from an academic counselor? I answered her “Yes, I just looked at the 1986 AWC college book, read the syllabus instructions, and stayed consistent with the program schedule to graduate!” In amazement, my academic counselor stated, “In all my years in education, I never saw any college student do what you just did!” In the end, I completed my interview with the counselor, finished a few courses, thus earning my Associate Degree of Applied Science in Business Administration.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The best way to keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty is to be honest with your clients, keep your word, and be there whenever they have an educational question. Case in point! I had a student with whom I was a guest speaker at an AVID class at a local high school. Of all the students at the event, she was the only one who listened to my pointers regarding earning a scholarship. Did you know, this young lady at her awards ceremony received $144,000 in stipend and academic scholarships. After the ceremony, she thanked me for my assistance. I returned the favor and thanked her for listening! My approach is simple. You have to be honest in explaining the pros and cons of attending college. You must keep your word that you will always be available should a client need assistance. The unique thing about my company is that once you pay for my services, you don’t pay for any additional assistance. Once a client, always a friend. Anytime that a client needs my assistance, I am there for them no matter what.
