BNH Deluxe, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
As cliche as it may sound, I’ve always believed that it just takes determination, discipline, passion, and constant movement and progress in the right direction. Any success stories I’ve heard from fellow artists and creatives that now live off of their passions stem from the principles I just mentioned.
John, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a seattle based artist that goes by BNH Deluxe, and I write, record, and perform songs that I wrote! I started in 2019 when I grew a love for making instrumentals on my iPad, and it grew into something much larger. There’s a lot that I’m proud of myself for, from my deal with Sub Pop, to press I’ve gotten for my brand (this article/interview included), and most of all, finding all the people who listen to my music every day, and continue to share it. If I had to choose one thing I want to be known for, it’s my belief in optimism, perseverance, & my determination to express that through my music.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My main source of new fans right now is the internet! Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube have connected me with some of my most diehard fans.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When Sub Pop Records told me at 14 years old that they didn’t plan on signing me for a full-length LP right after my Singles Club (Vol. 6) deal with them, it stung for a while. I had gotten my hopes up as a young kid who had little to no guidance on how this industry worked yet. There’s still a lot I have to learn. But I got back up, and I’m happy to say that I’m on tour this summer with King Zaae and Dxngelo, and I can totally do this independently.
