We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isabel (Issy) Von Zastrow. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isabel (Issy) below.
Isabel (Issy), looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I had spent the last 10 years of my life traveling all over the world chasing the wind for teaching, shooting video campaigns, and competing in kitesurfing when, due to a small injury, I found myself taking a year long break. I, honestly, had no idea what I was going to do with my time and where to put my focus, so I decided to do what i loved most: be by the beach creating. I tried anything and everything I could think of that I might be interested in.
I started all kinds of projects and was searching for something I was obsessed with, and then, I picked up watercolors. My focus had never been on art, however I found myself lost in the water and the freedom to create when and what I wanted.
It all started with doodling everyday which turned into printed cards which turned into my first show and it hasn’t stopped growing. Now, I run my own gallery in the Historic District of Todos Santos, BCS Mexico and I couldn’t be more excited for my next collection of paintings and ceramic to come out!

Isabel (Issy), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My brand, Von Zastrow Art is my way of sharing a life steeped in color, curiosity, and creativity. Through this business, I bring together my watercolor paintings, hand-painted ceramic collections, and original art cards and prints.
Galería von Zastrow is both a home for my evolving styles and a space to connect with others through art, while my watercolor workshops invite people to explore their own creativity.
From my cards sold across Central America to my online shop that reaches collectors worldwide, von Zastrow Art is about making art which honors nature and different cultures.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
At Von Zastrow Art, I believe a strong reputation is built on trust as much as creativity. I honor every agreement, stand by my prices, and deliver quality work consistently—on time, every time. This commitment to reliability not only reflects my respect for my collectors and clients but also ensures that each piece, whether a painting, ceramic, or custom order, arrives with the care and professionalism my brand is known for.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
When you follow through, word of mouth becomes your most powerful marketing. Happy clients share their experiences, and those stories travel farther than any advertisement. For Von Zastrow Art, this has meant attracting collectors and customers who are already excited and motivated—because they’ve heard firsthand about the quality, reliability, and orginality behind every piece I create.
Art is an investment and as I share my commitment to growth and goals, it establishes a reliability and desire to join at the early stages of my business.
