Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robert John Malone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Robert John, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
A story about Perseverance,
What I have come to notice is sometimes in life you will have to pull your own strings and other times you have to learn when to go with the flow, it simply takes time and experience to gain wisdom to learn which mode is best for any given season in life. While attending audio engineering school at SAE in Amsterdam, NL in 2001 I had come across an article about a DJ/Producer that I was following at the time named Adam Freeland and found out that he had a residency at a world renowned nightclub known as FABRIC in London.
Learning more about FABRIC with it’s advanced audio system and acoustics behind the design of the club as well as it being rated as the number one music venue for electronic music in the world at the time. I became inspired to land an internship there, so when I found out that Adam had a gig coming up I begin to write emails to the lead audio engineer, who I discovered was Dave Perry. And here is where the lesson comes in, see, I wrote fabric for almost 2 months and didn’t hear anything back from them. I was so determined that I tactfully just simply kept writing emails with as much respect as possible saying that, until I heard from someone I was just gonna keep sending emails!
Three weeks before the gig, I decided to just go ahead and book my flight to London from Amsterdam with no idea where I was going to stay, just moving with the determination that I would make connections and follow my dreams and see where it landed me. About two weeks before the gig I got an email from David Perry saying to “be at the back door at 4 o’clock and someone will let me in”. From there by Journey into producing electronic music and sound healing truly begin, and as I reflect on that moment I hope this story inspires others to follow their dreams, and to persevere through any hurdles or what appear to be roadblocks, and always remember the wisdom that I shared at the beginning of knowing what season you’re in and knowing which mode is best operate in.
Over the next year while working at my internship at FABRIC, I got to witness some of the top acts in electronic music perform live and essentially rub shoulders with greatness while witnessing many timeless moments and make connections that would be lifelong. To conclude, One of the most significant pieces of wisdom from David Perry on my professional journey, was to “Never burn your bridges”. Remember, you never know where your connections today are going to grow into tomorrow so best to keep an open heart, knowing when to go and knowing when to flow!
Robert John, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into the healing arts and metaphysical practices began around the age of 19 when I diagnosed with an auto immune disorder and found myself going through the protocols of western medicine. At the time, I was a sous chef at a four-star restaurant known as 32 East in Delray Beach, FL where I climbed my way up through the ranks without any formal training. I was making significant money for my age and living sort of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, partying all night drinking and doing various drugs, When one day I woke up with a form of arthritis and was not able to put any pressure on my feet or walk. I spent around six months going from doctor to doctor with multiple different diagnosis, only to be given a prognosis after six months of having a chronic condition and being given the option for chemotherapy.
I was faced with a pretty tough decision to either listen to the doctors and my parents or trust my gut and look for other options. What came to me was that a friend of mine’s mother was into Buddhism and so I decided to ask if she knew anyone that could help me with my condition. She led me to 13th generation, Chi-Gong grandmaster from China named Grandmaster Foo. For the next three months, I learned more about changing my diet changing my attitude about what was experiencing at that stage of my life. I learned about Chi-Gong, the human bio-field, energy medicine, yoga, and the power of meditation for certain conditions. It was this moment, then inspired me to learn more about the power of the mind, and how sound can be a profound aid in our mental wellness toolbox.
From there I went on to study many different wellness modalities, including becoming a certified yoga instructor, Reiki practitioner and breath work guide. Through my multi decade long studies I was inspired to create my current branding known as “Sacred Sound Services”, where I offer a variety of modern day shamanic services including sound therapy, chakra readings and other energetic metaphysical practices to aide in a wide variety of disorders.
