We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Edwawrd Palacio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Edwawrd below.
Edwawrd, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
It starts with my Dad, He’s a Water Color painter and when I was young He would always take photos of places or things that we would like to paint later. I got very curious about the camera and I offered my help to my Dad. He taught me just the very basic stuff to snap a shot and, boom, I got hooked.
I continued using the camera on and off as I was growing up as a teenager but I finally got more serious about it when I entered college. I took some Photography classes but soon I realized I needed more advanced/Specialized knowledge if i wanted to become a professional one. Also, Photoshop became the hottest new thing and knowing that I had to learn Photoshop to become a photographer (early 2000) I lost interest and drop Photography for many years. I still did very low quantity of work but I would never presented myself as a Professional Photographer.
I was tired of the situation, where I wanted to be a photographer but nobody would hire me as one. Until my Mom one day told me, more or less, “if you want people to see you as a professional photographer you have to start presenting your self as one, and stop saying that you do photography on the side” Once I started doing that everything changed magically, Mom’s slap was very effective. Since then, I’ve been trying to grow my business with up and downs but the road ahead is way clearer than before and with God’s help, all will be possible.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a Kid I was always interested in the Camera and having and artist Dad helps if Art is your inclination. I remember picking up my Dad’s camera and being completely captivated by its ability to freeze a moment in time. At that time, It wasn’t just about taking pictures; it was about capturing emotions, relationships, and the subtle beauty of everyday life that you can not be contained. This passion evolved from a hobby into a love, and eventually into a profession. I wanted to be a Filmmaker when to tell stories and with Photography/videography I found something that feels very similar.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lesson in life was to learn how to unlearn a lesson in life. Confused? well, I was too.
When I was starting Photography I thought I needed the best camera and that I needed to know Photoshop like a Master to be a Professional. Luckily, I then realized, and knowing how irritating the concept of having the best camera or become a Master in Photoshop was for me, I decided to force myself and re-become a Photographer, on my own terms. I spent 4 months watching until very late instructional videos on you tube about everything and anything related to Photography. It was this hunger to finally learn photography properly, as I wanted intended. After this, I asked a Friend that already was a professional to let me take photos in his Wedding job to practice and to start building a portfolio myself, and It worked, It helped me build my first own website.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I have learned that the best thing you can do to become successful in life is being helpful. If people think you can help them, they will always look for you, but this help has to be authentic or people will notice that you are just pretending to help to get the job.
To make sure We’re doing this W usually ask myself a question, how does feel when we delivered the photos to out client? Does it feel as you just helped someone in need? or Does it feel just like a mere transaction? The point is not to feel like a super hero for us but for them, that they are very glad they found us and reached us, that is the feeling we are always looking for in our clients.
