Today we’d like to introduce you to Talaya Moore.
Hi Talaya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Alabama but have been raised in NYC since I was 3. Growing up in New York was not easy at the all by the end of 2nd grade my mother and I were homeless. I spent most of elementary school without a home living out of a suitcase in the nyc shelter system. I graduated high school in 2013 from A. Philip Randolph and was accepted into SUNY Oneonta through EOP(educational opportunity program). After studying mass communication and event planning for 4 years I went on to study long form improv with Upright Citizens Brigade. Through improv is were I found my love for not only entertaining but for music as well when I discovered musical improv. By 2018 -2019 I started music as a hobby and fell in love with it. I also was modeling and a very active fashion and hair influencer during my college and improv years as well working with brands like Fashion Nova, rebdolls, parade and more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has not been a smooth road for me it’s been full of twist and turns. From childhood to teenage years I faced a lot of responsibility and heartbreak. I was in a very toxic relationship young which led me to poor decisions. My freshman year of college I experienced a really bad breakup with my high school sweetheart getting another girl pregnant that changed my whole out look on life. I was highly depressed but out of it came laylay Mariee the influencer which then lead to who I am today Plumpiana. I also have faced issues with housing as an adult and still struggle to this day. When I first started music back in 2019 I ended up taking a break due to COVID and loosing jobs and moving locations constantly. This road has been far from smooth but it mines.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today I am a rapper, performing artist, stylist, creative director and overall business woman. I have a company which I am growing called “House of Plumpiana.” H.O.P (house of Plumpiana) will be a brand that represents everything that I am. I hope to soon have a sweatsuit line, wigs, magazine and a production company all under H.O.P. Currently I am working on an album that shows off all my ranges in style as a rapper and musical artist. I specialize in writing, making wigs, makeup, creative styling and director. Something I’m most proud of would have to be getting a B.S from SUNY Oneonta and then going on to study improv and being in 2 New York Times best sellers with The Moth. Getting up on stage in front of thousands and telling my life story with The Moth was an empowering moment in my life. The story is called “A Bratz life” What sets me apart from others is that every “NO”, or you can’t has only made me strive harder to achieve any goal or intention I ever set. I was a child born into poverty and I did not let the environment drown or rob me of reaching my highest potential.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The qualities and characteristics I feel is most important to my success is my ability to be tenacious, adaptable and open minded, success looks different to everyone. I believe in quality over quantity and that is something that will help set you apart when creating success.
