Today we’d like to introduce you to Kwame Sarfo.
Hi Kwame, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been a mix of resilience, entrepreneurship, and a passion for impact. In 2021, I survived a hit-and-run accident and was saved by RWJ Hospital—a pivotal moment that reshaped my outlook on life. That experience fueled my drive to make meaningful contributions wherever I go.
Professionally, I work for one of the world’s largest staffing companies, where I help businesses in manufacturing and logistics find the right talent with less stress. I thrive on building relationships and solving hiring challenges.
Beyond my corporate role, I’m also an entrepreneur. I founded Obrempong Home, a Ghana-based home décor company specializing in handwoven Kente blankets, each taking over 300 hours to craft. It’s a way of preserving culture while creating economic opportunities for artisans.
Another passion project of mine is the Sarfo Scholarship, which helps students in Ghana afford university education. My goal is to raise and give away 100,000₵ to support bright, ambitious students in need.
Through all these ventures, my mission remains the same—to create opportunities, solve problems, and leave a lasting impact.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every challenge has shaped me into who I am today. One of the biggest struggles was surviving a hit-and-run accident in 2021. That experience was a wake-up call—it reminded me how unpredictable life can be and pushed me to be more intentional about the impact I want to leave behind.
In business, starting Obrempong Home came with its own set of hurdles. Sourcing authentic materials, building a market for handcrafted Kente blankets, and ensuring fair compensation for artisans in Ghana required persistence and problem-solving. There were times when sales were slow, and I questioned whether people truly valued the craftsmanship. But I stayed committed to the vision, and today, the brand is growing.
With the Sarfo Scholarship, raising funds hasn’t always been easy. I want to help as many students as possible, but the demand often outweighs the resources available. However, seeing even one student get the support they need keeps me motivated to push forward toward the goal of giving away 100,000₵ in scholarships.
Even in my professional career, I face challenges like navigating tough negotiations, standing out in a competitive market, and helping clients see the long-term value of staffing solutions. But I embrace these obstacles because every “no” is just a step closer to the right “yes.”
Through it all, I’ve learned that resilience, relationships, and a clear sense of purpose can get you through anything.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Obrempong Home ?
Obrempong Home: Where Tradition Meets Luxury Obrempong Home is more than just a home décor brand—it’s a celebration of culture, craftsmanship, and heritage. We specialize in handwoven Kente blankets, each taking over 300 hours to create from scratch. Every piece is a tribute to Ghanaian artistry, blending traditional weaving techniques with contemporary design to bring warmth, elegance, and meaning into homes worldwide.
What sets us apart is our commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. Unlike mass-produced textiles, our blankets are handcrafted by skilled artisans who have passed down their techniques for generations. Each piece tells a story, carrying the rich history of Kente weaving while offering a modern touch that makes it both a statement piece and a keepsake.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the impact we create—preserving a centuries-old craft while empowering artisans in Ghana. Every purchase supports fair wages and sustains local weaving communities, ensuring that this beautiful tradition thrives for future generations.
For those looking to bring a piece of Ghanaian heritage into their space, Obrempong Home offers more than just décor—we offer a legacy. Whether as a gift, a collector’s piece, or a symbol of cultural pride, our blankets stand out as a unique and meaningful addition to any home.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking, for me, is all about calculated decisions—weighing the potential downside while keeping an eye on the upside. I believe that growth, whether in business or personal life, comes from stepping outside of comfort zones. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was starting Obrempong Home, my home décor company in Ghana. I invested time and resources into an industry I was passionate about, but there were no guarantees of success. Bringing a premium, culturally significant product to the market required educating customers and building a brand from the ground up. It was a leap of faith, but I believed in the vision—and that belief has paid off.
For me, risk is about betting on yourself, preparing well, and embracing uncertainty as part of the journey to success. 🚀
