Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
Gaining clients can sometimes be a struggle when you are new to the field and literally no one knows you exist. Once I started really putting myself out there via social media platforms including facebook, instagram, and TikTok just to name a few I was able to book my first client. After really working & pushing my business out to a wider audience for months when I finally booked my first client I knew all my hard work was finally paying off. From just that 1 client I was able to gain referrals, product sales, and create a community of my dream clients.


Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been a master esthetician since 2018 I graduated from Graham Webb Academy in Arlington, Virginia with certificates in cosmetology, basic esthetics, and master esthetics. As a child I loved everything beauty doing makeovers for family & friends but never knowing I could make my passion as a career. In 2005 my grandmother was diagnosed with skincare and sadly passed so that gave me the drive to have a career I could create awareness in self care and wellness. After working in the spa industry in corporate and salon/spa settings I decided to open AN Skincare and Beauty specializing in tailored skincare treatments, waxing services, and multicultural skin enhancements in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.


Have you ever had to pivot?
During Covid like many other businesses had to pivot and I definitely had to as well. Thinking out side of the box in marketing than just the old school way of putting flyers on cars or just waiting for clients to come in. I decided to invest in myself by taking marketing classes which really helped me grow my business via TikTok and instagram. Also helping me to learn about branding myself more and shifted my focus on remembering I am providing self care for others so I would have to do that for myself as well if I truly want my business to be a success.


How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building my reputation in my community really came natural for me. I just made sure instead of worrying about the clients that I don’t have focus on the ones I currently have. Giving my clients the best service I could possibly give them, advice, and education and that brought more clients, referrals, and trust in my community.
