We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ashley King. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ashley below.
Ashley , appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my recent EP, Love Lately. It’s my first full body of work that really allows listeners to hear me, feel me, and understand who I am as an artist. While I had released a few singles before, this EP was my way of creating something more complete and intentional—something people could truly connect with. What makes this project so special is how deeply personal and spiritual it feels. Just like music, love is a deeply spiritual experience. It moves us, challenges us, and teaches us. Through this EP, I wanted to explore love in all its forms—romantic, self-love, even heartbreak—and express it in a raw, honest way. I allowed myself to go deep emotionally, and I think that vulnerability is something many people can relate to. Sharing these songs felt like opening up a part of my soul, and knowing that others might see themselves in the lyrics makes it all the more meaningful. This project wasn’t just about making music—it was about telling my truth and inviting others into it.

Ashley , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ashley King, and I’m a singer-songwriter whose journey with music is rooted deeply in love, faith, and family. Music has always been a part of my life, but it became something truly special through the church my uncle and aunt started—something our entire family helped build from the ground up. Everyone had a role, and for my mom, it was leading the praise team. Watching her pour so much heart and time into rehearsing, leading worship, and growing as a vocalist showed me how powerful music could be. I was especially moved by how naturally music flowed through my family—how my cousins picked up instruments and made them sing like it was second nature. That inspiration lit something in me. I joined the praise team, then choir in school, and over time, music became more than something I did—it became who I am. My family has shaped every part of my musical journey. Their love, their faith, their strength—I carry all of that with me in every lyric, every melody. Through my music, I want people to feel the same love I grew up with: a love rooted in purpose, connection, and heart.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a creative is the ability to connect with others through music. Everyone wants to feel understood, and music offers that sense of comfort and connection. Just like I turn to certain songs to bring peace to my own emotions, being able to create that same experience for others is the most meaningful part of being an artist to me.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
With my EP Love Lately, I’ve been unlearning unhealthy ideas about love—the fairytale myths and harmful patterns I unknowingly accepted and even reflected in my own relationships. Growing up, many of us only see love modeled in limited ways, often from family or media, which can lead to poor communication like walking away instead of being honest and truly listening. Through this project, I’m learning that real love is about growth, facing challenges together, and open, honest communication.
