Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Lott.

Hi Derek, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in March 2018, was homeless in Washington D.C. working 10hrs/day at a car wash & decided to self-publish a Poetry book called Views From The Trap to tell My Story; which later became the driving force to finally publish my clothes as well. So May 2018 I launched the book & the apparel as a collaboration collection between my Fashion Brand, Dreams Of Rulers & Broadcasting Agency, Diamond Dreams Movement Productions.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. Since My short term at VUU, My Business Teach told Us day one the best teacher is experience. While on My Journey I’ve had to break generational curses, learning the lessons of being in business, working with different people, & finding different ways to keep reinventing myself. Along with that, I started Homeless; been In & Out of Homelessness since 10th grade, so just getting myself stabilized & then dealing with the outside hatred along the way took the first 2 years away from me. But We finally been scaling up online & through community support.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Founder of Dream$ Of Ruler$ (Street Fashion) & Diamond Dreams Movement Productions, Fashion Designer, Poet, WebSeries Host, Producer, & Podcaster. I specialize in Street Fashion & Broadcasting for right now designing content that motivates & educates people to be their best self. I’m most proud of where I came from (mom died from cancer at 12), Dad stole from me, struggled w/drug addiction in my late teens, was homeless & built everything on my own. What sets Me apart is My Drive & willingness to always want to learn.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The Quality that is Most important to my success & will always be the most important is the virtuous qualities My Mother instilled in my sister & I as kids; along with life’s experiences to help provide people with relate stories & lessons for their lives to become the best version of themselves.
