We were lucky to catch up with Diane “Sunny” Goodwin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Diane “Sunny”, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
Before Covid19, 100% of my tutoring was in person. After Covid19, we had to move to Zoom and Skype online tutoring, which we did seamlessly for all of our clients. We were even able to make it work for children as young ad Kindergarten and First Grade. We did find, that once the school reopened, however, parents wanted to return to in person tutoring. That being said, we are able to do online tutoring now any time a student or family member must quarantine waiting to see if they develop Covid after being exposed somewhere, or when they are at home recuperating and feel well enough to work on the computer. This way kids stay much more current with school work and do not get so behind due to isolating at home..
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born to teach and know from a deep Soul level that God brought me here to teach and make the world a better place by helping kid reach their highest possible potential. I have been teaching for 54 years, keeping up with all the new developments in education. It is my JOY to do what I do every day.We provide in-home, both online and in-person tutoring for all ages grades K through college in most academic areas. Tutors are credentialed teachers, often retired with MANY years of teaching experience. We have two special education teachers who work with kids who are Special Ed. and have made huge progress with all our students, often bringing grade up two or three grades over the semester. We are able to diagnose learning issues, target the missing skills that need to be taught and remediate those skills to get students who are far behind grade level caught up over time.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I learned all I could about social media, created a facebook page for my business, a twitter account, and a LinkedIn account. I post to them regularly myself, as I do to my google pages. I took classes in how to create this social media presence and then followed through on what I learned.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During the Pandemic, we brought on new tutoring platforms to include Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts, so we could survive and thrive while students were all learning from home. All my tutors and I had to adapt to this new way of delivering services which were previously only delivered in person. We not only learned to do this but did it extremely successfully! Covid has forever changed the range of the kinds of tutoring services we can now offer from afar!
