Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace/Dice Bundy.
Hi Ace/Dice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been doing art ever since I can remember! The first memory I have is drawing Blaze the Cat on a large piece of paper. I believe my grandmother still has it. I went from making fanart and sonic ocs traditionally, to mastering digital software and drawing comic covers, art for games, and designing characters for various media.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a very tough road for me. I’ve moved around a lot, seen and experienced scary things, and my physical and mental health seems to be declining by the year. For most of my art journey, it was a matter of income; whether I was able to afford certain supplies to execute works I’m passionate about. Thankfully my grandmother helped me with most of my worries regarding the subject. She was always my number 1 fan. She never doubted my talent or the place it has in the world.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do both traditional and digital work! As far as traditional goes, I like to use my acrylic markers and paint on really small canvases! It’s quite soothing and very fun to do when you have free time. However, my main work is digital! I used to use Paint Tool Sai for my first 4-5 years of learning how to create computer-based work. Once Clip Studio came into the picture, all of my attention was set on that program and that program only. Funnily enough, I organized my CSP workspace to look like my workspace on Sai; I was too used to the layout and it also made the most sense to me.
I personally don’t feel like I have too much of a reach to be known for anything! All the work I have done was small gigs, usually single occurrences. Though the farthest my work has gotten were these cute designs I’ve drawn for a woman who made her own hair products. I made graphics for keychains, stickers, and labels, and she even made one of these designs into a rug! I did all this from ages 15-18. We still keep tabs on each other and she is one of the sweetest and assuring people in the world. This is what I am proud of; picking up design work from such a young age and maintaining such a relationship with my employer. Freelance work has been my life ever since! And, to be honest, I love it.
Besides this, in my small friend group, I think my character designs are what define me, I have my own signature; I like to add piercings and makeup to any character I create or redesign. I feel as though they’re naked without them. I feel like this one mindset I have sets me apart just a tiny bit! I don’t believe everyone says “This guy needs more holes in his face” the number of times I do.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
As mentioned before, my grandmother was my first big supporter in my life. She would enable my creativity by buying me my supplies until I was around 15 years old. I moved out of her house almost 8 years ago, and I just recently moved out of my mother’s house. So, unfortunately, I don’t have that constant support anymore.
My other supporters are my partner Mephiles, my best friend Fierce, my little sister, my college friends, and many of my online friends that are also artists; Kameron, Martie, Emerald, Kerri, Venus, and Nour just to name a few. They consistently show an interest in my work, my goals, and opportunities that happen to come my way. Being surrounded by love and acceptance is necessary for me to stay sane. I’m lucky to be getting a healthy dose of it day by day.
