We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Owens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christopher thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Life, honestly, to me is one big meaningful project, and within that, there are smaller projects that help shape the journey. More specifically, the dreams and goals that all of us have are what make it meaningful. As artists and creatives, we are always creating, turning ideas into reality, and producing new work that sometimes feels endless. That is why it becomes one long, meaningful journey. I know for me personally, there are so many things and goals I want to achieve in the culinary craft, whether it is growing a larger platform, creating both a digital and physical cookbook, or even one day appearing on a cooking show. I’ve learned that writing my goals down makes them more obtainable, and it helps me stay accountable. These are the smaller projects that live within that greater one.
I am also a man who wears many different hats. Besides my culinary endeavors, I have a calling for fashion and photography, which I showcase on my personal account “Chrxthegoat,” dedicated to fashion, lifestyle, and travel. I know there are many niches I feel called to explore, so all I can do is continue to create because everything I do is rooted in storytelling. Whether it is through food, a look, or a captured moment, I am building a brand that reflects authenticity, culture, and creativity. Nothing is created just to fill a screen. There is intention behind every reel, every dish, every photo. I want people to feel something when they experience my work. To feel inspired. To feel connected. To feel authentic. This is more than content. This is a legacy in motion.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So where do I start? Growing up as the son of two immigrant parents in a Jamaican household played a major role not only in shaping who I am today but also in influencing the art I create. From a young age, I was always surrounded by cooking, since both of my parents were and still are veterans in the kitchen. In our family, cooking is a central part of Caribbean culture, especially because so many authentic dishes and techniques are passed down from generation to generation. Still, despite that foundation, my journey into the culinary world was not straightforward. I actually grew up as a theater kid. From small church plays to auditioning for as many community productions as I could, that was the beginning of my path to becoming a multi-talented artist. Later in my teenage years, I was accepted into the Baltimore School for the Arts, where I trained intensively in the dance forms of ballet and modern throughout high school. I value all of these experiences because they allowed me to explore my creativity and pursue the things I loved while growing up. And that is something I am truly proud of.
For me, now as an adult, I had to reconnect with cooking and fall in love with it the way my parents did. I remember years ago starting small, making brownies every week to bring to work or for Mother’s Day, making an extravagant dinner for my mom. That eventually grew into creating content that helps teach anyone who sees my videos how easy it is to make homemade dishes for the people you love. In 2024, I created the brand “Chrxthecook,” a page dedicated to me making dishes, drinks, and treats from scratch. It also emphasizes the importance of how much healthier and cleaner food can be when you make it at home with fresh ingredients and with love. Looking back, I felt lost as an artist for a while because of the pressure that comes with adulthood, which sometimes forces you into a routine of normalcy. I think that is what ultimately pushed me closer to the culinary craft. Fast forward to today, cooking has become my outlet. It is a way for me to channel my creativity into visually and emotionally engaging dishes, just like I would with acting or dancing. I believe that is what sets me apart from others.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My motto is, “The goal is to outdo yourself, be 1% better than the person you were yesterday.” I know sometimes this goal feels unattainable, but you should always aim to be better than the version of yourself from yesterday, a week ago, a month ago, or even a year ago. After all, you are your greatest investment. For me, this mindset has been a game-changer, especially on my creative journey. There are days when progress feels slow or content doesn’t hit the way I hoped, but instead of letting that discourage me, I remind myself that the process is about growth. It is not about being perfect today but about being more intentional, more thoughtful, and more refined than I was before.
Over time, I have learned to treat every setback as a lesson, every failure as feedback. Whether it is refining the way I edit a video, testing a new recipe, or just showing up consistently, I focus on improving one small thing at a time. The truth is, when you commit to outdoing yourself, even in the smallest ways, you build momentum. And eventually that momentum turns into mastery.
So yes, the goal is to outdo yourself. Every day.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect has to be the product. For most people, there is no greater feeling than seeing your hard work pay off. I know that for a lot of artists and creatives, we do not give ourselves enough grace and often forget to pat ourselves on the back when we hit minor or major milestones. For me, impostor syndrome has been one of my biggest flaws. I have tried to assassinate my own dreams and goals before even giving myself a real chance to achieve them. But as I have gotten older, I have realized that overcoming that flaw has helped build my character because I am more aware of my habits.
When it comes to my creative work, I have had to accept that perfection is a myth and the product is the reality.
