Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terrika Love. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Terrika, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The year after I graduated college it was hard finding a job in my career field (media management) that I loved. The jobs available were either underpaid or were just immorally out of my league. I started asking myself what I really want to do based off who I am. Even though that was a soul searching time in my life, it was when I began to learn who I am as an adult. From a teen on up, I’d always have people telling me how they love my style and it’s creative. I minored in Fashion Merchandising so this gave me the business aspect of fashion. There I was in my early 20s with education in marketing and merchandising. I was a born fashionista. I came up with the name for my blog turned Business after my first photo shoot. My love for fashion, skin care, makeup and accessories hit me… Stylish Stylist! Til this day my customers love the name and say it’s catchy. My company’s name truly speaks for the brand.

Terrika, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Terrika Love. Born and bred in Memphis, Tn. My business started off as a blog… just a creative outlet for me in 2016. Four years later, I had my first daughter and was no longer working. The jobs were in chaos because of the pandemic. I got the bright idea to start “selling myself”. Like “Hey! People love what I wear. Why not offer them the hand picked fashion they love so much?” Now 5 years later my business is expanding into something I never even dreamed of. I love helping other women feel great about themselves. I love saving women from shopping hours in retail stores for an everyday look or a special event. As I have set up shop in many vendor events, I also offer my products online all over the US.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Whew! Isn’t this a story to tell! Lol from the beginning I fully funded my business myself. I funded my business from some of the earnings from my jobs, Ubering, and a few donations from mentors who understood my business. Over the years I gained more knowledge on business finance. I fully registered my business as an LLC, got a business bank account and began applying for business credit cards. I’ve applied for business grants and credit cards. I just manage those accounts like my personal finances and keep them in good standing. Being a business owner has its challenges but as long as you want it you will find a way to make things happen.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The thing that helped build my reputation was consistency and confidence. When people see you show up for your business every day they will take you and your business serious. One of my best selling products being press on nails I had to make it a need just as much as a want. Women have been acrylic full sets and overlays forever. So why switch to wearing press ons? This is a question I get asked all the time. I’m knowledgeable about my product. I stand behind what I sell. I know what my products offer and why they stand out. I also stand on quality! When you provide quality products and services you can’t go wrong. Be consistent with pushing your brand and be confident in the results.
