Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Peralta.
Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
How much time do you have, it’s a long story haha! It’s hard to say exactly where my career “started” so to speak. Music has been my passion since childhood, and I pursued it with everything I had. I was studying Classical Trombone Performance at Queens College, on track to minor in Composition and Theory, but by 2015, I hit a mental wall. Between working two jobs, commuting across boroughs, and spending every free moment practicing, I burned out. I decided to take a year off to regain balance and figure out my next move.
To be honest, It was a nice break to not think about music for a while. I made new friends, took better care of myself, got back in the gym, went out more. I felt human again. During this break, I started experimenting with electronic music, teaching myself to produce and DJ with secondhand gear and bootleg software. I realized I could pivot my career while staying in the music industry, so I enrolled at the School of Audio Engineering to learn the technical side of production. While there, I spent countless hours after class in the studios, mastering my craft and recording for friends. I decided if I was going to be here 5 days a week, I would have to make the most out of it. I may never get the chance to use vintage analog equipment again. I needed to learn everything I could. I needed to be the best engineer in New York. I was determined to stand out and become the best engineer in New York.
My hard work paid off when an instructor recommended me for an apprenticeship at Red Bull Studios. I landed the role and spent my nights learning from some of the most talented engineers in the industry, soaking up their expertise and refining my skills. By late 2019, I was freelancing at the studio, engineering and producing for artists—right as the pandemic hit. The city shut down, and the studio closed its doors permanently.
A year later, while freelancing and working from home, I got a surprising opportunity. A friend asked me to help with a studio install, which turned out to be the old Red Bull Studios, now owned by Republic Records. My familiarity with the space landed me a job on the spot. After working there for two years, I had collected a shocking number of credits. I had worked with artists like Kid Cudi, Post Malone, The Weeknd, Chappel Roan, Metro Boomin, The Jonas Brothers, Sabrina Carpenter – it was a fast-paced flurry of excitement, and success
In late 2023, the parent company Universal Music Group underwent some corporate restructuring, and I unfortunately was laid off in the process. Luckily, however, I was already in the midst of opening up my own studio in Brooklyn which I currently own and operate: Enamoured Sound Studios.
Hard to say which part of this story is the “start” of my career. Looking back, each moment was its own start so to speak. But I wouldn’t have done it any other way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anything in life is a smooth road. Looking at my own story, it’s full of unexpected twists and turns. But I think the hard times are some of life’s biggest lessons. The biggest challenge I think is being a full-time freelancer. If you’re self-employed you know how difficult it can be. Some months you’re working every day, making money hand over fist, and you’re thinking “Wow, I’m really doing this. Imposter Syndrome be damned!” Other times, it’s been weeks since you’re last high-paying gig and you’re trying to figure out how much your kidney is worth on the dark web. Being your own boss, manager, marketing agent, and advocate can be a daunting hill to climb. But it’s those moments that force you to grow and learn and push yourself beyond the limits you set for yourself in order to succeed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Enamoured Sound is a recording studio I own and operate in Brooklyn, New York. Found just steps away from Industry City, Enamoured Sound hosts a wealth of character and creative opportunity. We offer a powerful selection of analog equipment, real synthesizers, a wide collection of guitars, and a sizable recording space, all housed in an inviting and inspiring atmosphere.
We are most known for our professionalism, our efficiency, and our comfortable work environment. Not only are our staff members artists themselves, but we have also worked in some of the largest recording studios in New York City, making us well-versed in the needs of working artists and musicians. At Enamoured Sound, artists receive the same services and accommodations that larger studio’s offer, only with us they are afforded the attention they deserve, and they don’t have to break the bank.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
(our business wasn’t open during covid, can we skip this question?)
