Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dudley Shannon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Dudley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Why do I do this? So people have good, high quality photos.
I played sports in High School, as did my wife. We combined have about 12 decent action photos of us playing sports in school.
I want to make sure that my sons, my kids friends, my friends kids, people I don’t know have high quality photos of their kids doing whatever sports they do.
I do other photography, wedding, senior portraits, modeling, ect.., but sports, that’s my wheelhouse.
Dudley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Dudley “Eric” Shannon, I go by Eric.
I started my photography career in 1993, when I began working for my school newspaper and in my uncle’s store, Photo Print Center in Muskogee, OK. developing black & white film in the dark room. Red light and all, I would develop film and print black and white photos in the dark throughout my high school years. I worked there for almost 10 years, becoming manager and photographer.
In 1995 I bought my first camera, a 35mm film Minolta Maxum 4 with a 70-300mm 5.6 lens. I graduated to a 35mm film Minolta Maxum 7s with an 80-200mm, 2.8 within a few years. That 2.8 was the best lens I ever owned and used it until it locked up in 2021 on my Sony A100!
By 1999 I was taking photos for area and regional news papers and began learning portrait photography. During that time I had been published in every newspaper and many magazines in the Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas region.
By the mid 2000’s I took a hiatus from photography, but began photographing again in 2017 and began teaching my two sons how to photograph.
In 2021 I created Eric Shannon Marketing, but in In 2024 I rebranded from Eric Shannon Marketing to Shannon Media, LLC., so to include my sons.
I do other photography, wedding, senior portraits, modeling, ect.., but sports, that’s my wheelhouse.
