Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Korff.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I became a sugar addict at 5 years old after my grandpa was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. From there, it was nearly 8 years of struggling with my health & fitness. I was gaining 20+ pounds per year, had a sweating disorder, was sick for 3-5 weeks at a time with basic things, & my feet became so swollen from my dietary habits that I had to wear men’s wide tennis shoes by age 11-12.
I got my shit together at age 13, lost 50 pounds in under 6 months while interning in vet med full time, & haven’t had an issue since. I just turned 30 years old & have worked full-time careers in vet med, aerospace engineering, education, & as a CEO. I have 3 degrees, & worked the entire time through each of them. I worked a full-time career during both of my master’s degrees. All of this was on top of my sister’s 11-year terminal illness from 2012-2023, publishing 6 books {one of them is Detective B}, founding my fitness companies Ashley Korff Fitness LLC & October 13th Fitness Co, & founding my nonprofit Parker’s Promise Foundation.
Nothing in the mainstream fitness industry actually solved the problem because if you don’t get control over your mind, it will control you. That’s why meal & workout plans alone don’t work…if you can’t execute shit, you get a shitty result.
I’ve been a lifelong scientist & put myself as a guinea pig for a neuroscience experiment to permanently rewire my brain. It worked…a healthy lifestyle has been as simple & easy as brushing my teeth, & I’m not kidding. Other areas of my life have been a pain in the ass, like dating haha. The more successful & accomplished you become, the harder it becomes to find anyone in your arena, especially if you’re like me & don’t value marriage & do not want kids.
I felt the first divide between myself & my peers after I published my first book, The Real Perfect 10, at age 17. Going to football games & stuff seemed silly to me. I went to prom & homecoming once each & wasn’t impressed. I was bored to fucking tears & I actually left homecoming early.
I frequently post old photos from the past 16 years on my Instagram @ashleykorff & I’ve barely aged. I frequently get told that I look younger than my age & get stopped in public because of how damn good I look. The gym managers at my current gym always mention how “I don’t look much different at all” from when I first joined in 2016. My makeup is more advanced & gothic now than when I was 21 year old, & I’ve grown 2 inches since undergrad. I’ve got some more muscle on me since 2016, too.
It’s not just that, though- I out lift your husbands at the gym in a full face of makeup. I’ve gotten men on camera watching me in pure awe at how much weight I can lift, & that’s a very, very far cry from being told “I don’t want to sit next to you because you’re the fat girl.” Instead of trying to fit in with everyone else, I built my own damn table. Now my social circle is 6+ figure entrepreneurs doing good things in this world, & not a singular soul from grade school.
I started my coaching company in January 2020 because I was sick of sitting on the sidelines working a regular job. I’ve always been a high achiever who’s wanted more out of life than most people walking around. I had just founded my nonprofit in fall 2019. & I needed fuel for it. My sister was also still alive, & her medical bills were insane. My entry-level engineering job wasn’t enough to take care of her if my parents passed away. Both of my parents led an extremely unhealthy lifestyle from their 30s onward (hell pretty much my entire gene line did), so I’m very proud to have broken that cycle not just for myself, but for countless others in my programs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been as smooth as a jagged piece of glass. I struggled with sugar addiction for nearly 8 years…that was a long time to be gaining 20+ pounds a year, give or take. It was a long time to be stuck in my own mind. It took a real breaking point to wake my ass up that if I didn’t change, I was going to die really damn young. It took about a year for me to figure it out on my own, since I had to do my own research & put the pieces together alone. But once that fell into place, the next 6 months were the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m still here 16 years later & can confidently say a healthy lifestyle has been the easiest part of my life for that long.
Starting my company was hard as hell, even for someone who’s viewed as an expert like myself. People don’t give a shit about your degrees, your own story even, your certifications, if you’ve published a book or not…they just give a shit about if you can help them. So I got really damn good at showing people that one thing, & created a brand that sticks out in a saturated market like a sore thumb. The first 2.5 years in business were hard because that was me falling flat on my face over & over & over & over & over until I had a winning brand, program, etc. And like any business, I have shit that doesn’t work out exactly…emails that don’t hit the mark, ads that don’t bring in sales. You tweak, refine, optimize, until you hit the nail on the head. It’s an ever-evolving process that’s outside of & beyond myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of Ashley Korff Fitness LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My program actually solves the underlying problem(s) associated with an unhealthy lifestyle & runaway weight gain, without the industry gimmicks & with a shit ton of fun…you crack your weight loss code with a murder mystery along the way. I take a vastly different approach to fitness & don’t babysit my clients with check-ins: instead, I treat them like the smart cookie, capable adults they are, empowering them to make high-level decisions with my expert guidance.
I’m extremely proud to be a global brand…to date, we’ve impacted lives in the US, UK, Canada, & Australia, & will be expanding beyond those in 2025. My customers & clients are truly diverse & work in over a dozen different industries & niches. The fact I’ve been able to impact humans with real lives, in an area that I struggled with for so long, is wildly rewarding.
I’m also extremely proud of the ongoing work that my nonprofit is doing for animal welfare, from fair chance pet adoptions to preventing pet obesity. I’ve been a lifelong animal lover & pet parent, & it makes me so incredibly happy to give back.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Life is full of risks, whether you see them immediately or not. You never know how something will turn out unless you try. The worst-case scenario when I started a company was that it would shut down, & the best case scenario is exactly what’s happened: I kept going in the storm & now have had steady business growth for two years.
The worst case scenario for me would work a day job for the rest of my life with someone else bossing me around til I fall in my grave, which is the norm for most people.
