We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jacob Mendoza a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jacob, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
i would say that my first project, “(demos)” is my most raw and emotional project, maybe my most meaningful. each of those songs have meanings that are personal for me. i enjoy the intimacy of my music, it feels like telling a close friend a secret. i want people to connect to my lyrics with their own experiences as i do my own.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
im mainly a slowcore artist, blending sound like shoegaze and screamo for a noisy and quiet contrasted mix of some of my favorite genres. the loud parts are harsh and heavy while the quiet parts are slow, melancholy and intimate. ive been releasing music for a year now and am excited to see where my art takes me.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
an integral part of my audience growth as an artist has been my post on social media. i’ve learned that posting on tiktok is basically a free advertisement for my music. my tip for social media is to go for it, ignore the people who want to bring you down, and have fun.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
hearing people make personal connections to my music. i appreciate when people dm me to tell me that they have been enjoying my music. it gives me inspiration to create more and makes the whole process very fulfilling.
