Monica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
From Pain to Purpose: How One Woman Turned Family Struggle Into a Thriving Beauty BusinessThe reason I took the risk to open my business wasn’t because I had everything lined up it was because I was desperate to create a better future for my family.
A few years ago, my mother became critically ill. We weren’t sure if she was going to make it. I remember sitting in the hospital, watching her sleep, tears silently running down my face. I felt completely powerless. Not only was I terrified of losing her, but I also carried the heavy burden of knowing I couldn’t afford better care. Financially, we were struggling and in that moment, I felt how deeply limited we were by money.
At the time, I was just starting out in the beauty industry. I was passionate, but still new. But sitting in that hospital room, everything became clear. I didn’t just want more I needed more. I needed the kind of financial freedom that could change lives, starting with my own family.
After working two years in the industry, a thought kept coming back to me: “Start waxing.” And honestly? It made me laugh. I had always been the girl who said I would never get into waxing. It just wasn’t my thing until it became my everything.
I followed that instinct, got trained in sugaring, and launched my own business: Platinum Sugar Trend. It was a risk. I didn’t know if it would work. But I knew I had to try. I was working in 2008 jeep doing house calls renting hotel rooms and air bnbs to then opening my own location
Today, I’m proud to say that risk paid off. What started as a small step has grown into a thriving beauty business. More importantly, I now have the freedom to support my family in ways I never could before. I’m no longer helpless I’m empowered.
The journey hasn’t been easy. But out of one of the darkest moments in my life came the most powerful transformation. I turned pain into purpose and built a business that’s changing lives, one sugar session at a time.

Monica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! My name is Monica], and I’m the founder and owner of Platinum Sugar Trend, a body sugaring and skincare studio dedicated to providing safe, gentle, and empowering hair removal services for all skin types specially sensitive skin and melanated skin, which are often overlooked in the beauty industry.
I officially launched Platinum Sugar Trend after two years of working in the beauty industry and realizing how underserved many clients were when it came to intimate skincare and waxing. What truly pushed me to take the leap was a deeply personal moment: my mother became critically ill, and that experience lit a fire in me. I knew I needed to create something bigger not just for myself, but for my family and for every client who deserved better.
Before starting this journey, I was the girl who used to say, “I’ll never do waxing!” But life has a funny way of showing you exactly where you’re meant to be. I fell in love with sugaring because it’s a natural, ancient, and more gentle alternative to traditional waxing. It’s effective but also kind to the skin no harsh chemicals, no strips, and minimal irritation. Once I saw the difference it made for my clients, I knew this was more than just a service it was a solution.
At Platinum Sugar Trend, I specialize in full-body sugaring, with a focus on Brazilian sugaring for women who want clean, comfortable, and confidence-boosting results. I also offer aftercare education and product recommendations so my clients can maintain their results and feel good in their skin between appointments. It’s more than a beauty service it’s self-care, confidence, and empowerment.
What sets me apart is not just my technique, but the vibe and experience I create. Clients walk into my space and feel safe, seen, and celebrated. I’ve created a judgment-free, welcoming atmosphere where every woman no matter her body type, background, or skin type feels like a queen. This isn’t just about hair removal it’s about helping people feel good in their skin again.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve built and the trust my clients place in me. I’ve had women come in feeling nervous or insecure, and they leave glowing not just from the results, but from how they were treated. That transformation is everything to me.
To anyone thinking about booking with me or following my journey: just know that Platinum Sugar Trend is built on purpose, passion, and real love for what I do. I’m here to serve, to educate, and to help you feel your absolute best one sugar strip at a time.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I first started Platinum Sugar Trend, I didn’t have a big following or even a full strategy. What I did have was a vision and a strong belief that if I showed up consistently and genuinely, people would start to notice.
In the early days, I used my Instagram (@platinumsugartrend21) as a way to share my journey. I posted behind-the-scenes moments, client transformations (with permission), skincare tips, and little reminders to love yourself. I wasn’t trying to be perfectIy was just being real. I spoke from the heart, and I focused on educating and connecting, not just selling.
One of the biggest shifts happened when I started sharing more of me. People don’t just follow a business they follow a person. When I began opening up about why I started my business (like my mom’s health struggles and my desire to create financial freedom for my family), people related. My audience grew because they could see the purpose behind what I was doing.
Over time, I invested more into quality content things like clean visuals, branded colors, and professional photos but that only works when the message is real. I also used tools like Instagram Reels to show off my sugaring technique, explain the benefits, and let my personality shine through. And of course, hashtags, engagement with followers, and consistency all played a big role.
Advice for Anyone Just Starting Out
Start messy, but start. Don’t wait until everything is perfect. Use what you have, show up authentically, and let people grow with you.
Show your face and your story. People connect with you your journey, your voice, your passion. Don’t hide behind just graphics or promos. Educate and serve. Give value before you ask for anything. Tips, behind-the-scenes, FAQs whatever helps your audience trust you.
Engage, don’t just post. Reply to comments, share DMs (with permission), shout out your clients make it a two-way street.
Stay consistent. Even on the slow days, keep going. The algorithm may not always be kind, but your consistency builds brand trust.
Social media isn’t just about gaining followers it’s about building a community. That’s what I’ve created through Platinum Sugar Trend: a safe, empowering space for women to feel seen, supported, and confident.
And the best part? We’re just getting started.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most defining moments in my journey the one that truly tested my resilience was when my mom became critically ill. We didn’t know if she would make it. I remember sitting in the hospital, watching her sleep, crying quietly, and feeling completely broken. But what hurt even more than the fear was knowing I couldn’t financially support her the way she deserved. I felt powerless. That pain lit something inside me.
At the time, I was early in my beauty career, with barely any money and no clear direction. But I told myself: “You have to do something. You have to build something for her, and for you.”
That’s when I took the leap and started sugaring something I swore I’d never do. I trained, practiced, marketed myself from scratch, and worked through every fear and doubt. I started with no clients and no fancy setup just grit, faith, and the belief that I could create something real.
There were slow weeks, canceled appointments, and moments when I wondered if I made the right choice. But I kept showing up. I stayed consistent, kept learning, kept pushing. And little by little, it started to grow. Clients started trusting me. Word spread. I became known not just for my technique but for how I made women feel when they walked into my studio.
That season of my life taught me that resilience doesn’t always look loud or perfect. Sometimes it looks like crying in silence and still getting up to fight the next day.
Today, Platinum Sugar Trend is a symbol of that resilience. I built this brand from the ground up during one of the hardest times in my life. And that’s what I want other women to know you don’t have to have it all figured out to start. You just have to start.
