We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kylie Bissell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kylie below.
Kylie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
As human beings, it’s natural to compare ourselves to others—especially on social media. But to me, success means setting a goal and working toward it every single day until it’s achieved. That doesn’t mean I work 24/7; it means I ask myself each day: What can I do today to get 1% closer to that goal?
I remind myself daily, “It doesn’t matter how long it takes. I will achieve my goal.”
Before entering the fitness industry, I worked in animal care. It took six years of unpaid experience—while going to college—before I became a Marine Mammal Trainer at SeaWorld San Antonio. There will be days when you feel defeated, when you can’t see the finish line. But the real growth happens when you keep moving forward, even when you don’t see the progress right away.
Hot Girl Cycle Club is a start-up business. When every bank in Charleston told me “no” to a small business loan, I realized I needed to find an investor—someone who believed in my idea and in me. You might hear “no” 10, 15, even 20 times, but it only takes one yes.
So don’t quit on yourself.
You will be successful—no matter how long it takes.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m 27 years old and originally from Scottsdale, Arizona. Moving to the East Coast was a huge change for me, and it wasn’t easy finding people I could call close friends. But once I discovered the fitness community, I knew I had found my place—and I didn’t want to leave!
Hot Girl Cycle Club came to life on its own. I’ve been teaching spin for six years, and at past studios, riders would show up 45 minutes early just to hang out. I watched friendships form and memories being made right in front of me. Before I knew it, I was planning pumpkin carvings, craft nights, and more.
As adults, it gets harder to make new friends—most of us aren’t playing team sports anymore. I wanted to recreate that team environment. A space where people show up for each other, and in turn, are inspired to show up as the best version of themselves.
Hot Girl Cycle Club is a fully functioning traveling spin studio based in Charleston, SC. We currently have three main weekly residencies: The Refinery, Share House, and Point Break Coffee. You can book your ride through our website or local app using a membership or a drop-in pass.
Outside of our weekly schedule, we also pop up in North Charleston and Summerville. And because we’re fully mobile, we can bring the bikes to you for private events or rides!
Whether it’s your first time clipping in or you’re a seasoned rider, our coaches are here to teach you everything you need to know about rhythm riding. We truly believe anyone and everyone can do this.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had to learn how to pivot in every career I’ve had—whether it was working in a vet clinic and needing to stay on my toes for emergencies, or as a SeaWorld Trainer, where no day ever goes exactly as planned.
Hot Girl Cycle Club isn’t my first fitness business venture. I was previously a part-owner of another studio here in Charleston, SC. Needless to say, that partnership didn’t work out. And you know what? I wouldn’t change a thing.
Life isn’t a straight line of success. When something doesn’t go the way you hoped, take the time to acknowledge what you learned and use it as fuel for your next chapter. Failure isn’t final—it’s just feedback.
If you can master the art of pivoting, you can do anything.
HGCC was born out of one of my biggest pivots—and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
As a start-up company, we had to be extremely intentional about where our investment money went—prioritizing only the essentials. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this business and made it my mission to learn every role that contributes to our success.
I’m no expert, but I proudly design and produce all of our merchandise. I teach classes, manage the team, and even handle our social media and marketing.
That last part—marketing and social media—has easily been one of the biggest challenges. It’s a full-time job in itself! I had to let go of the fear of failure and just start posting, learning as I go. I leaned on my community, asking friends in the industry for honest feedback and advice.
That’s another lesson I’ve learned: don’t be afraid to ask for help.
More often than not, people want to help.
Social media can be intimidating, especially when you’re wearing multiple hats. But my advice? Just start. The only way to get better at something is to keep trying.
Someone once told me:
“Anyone who’s great at something was first bad at it. Don’t be afraid to be bad for a while in order to be great.”
And that has stuck with me ever since.
