I never talk about my parents in relation to my art, but I found this question ultimately very interesting and appropriate for my age: 45.
My mother let me live in my own world when I was a child and immediately respected my desire. She cultivated my sensitivity to the world around me and respected my pace of life—until society reminded her how much suffering it took to be integrated into the system.
My father didn’t insist on taking care of me too much, but let me fend for myself to survive, while ensuring I would succeed. By abandoning me at a young age, he gave me self-confidence and the confirmation that I could survive without him. I thank him for that today because he’s still alive, and we’re close.

Gaël , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began drawing and imagining maps in my childhood, around the age of two.
Born in Brittany (REDON) in 1980, I quickly began to imagine a world and its stories.
Passionate about paleontology and geography at the time, I spent most of my time looking at world maps and poring over atlases and encyclopedias about dinosaurs.
Since early childhood, I’ve been mapping this planet composed of gigantic empires and imaginary languages, which I’ve named “OESFRADE.”
It’s an imaginarium.
I invent its geography and therefore its maps.
I’ve also imagined its landscapes, its peoples, its cultures, its alphabets, its languages, its history, its fauna, and its flora.
In addition, I’m creating a complete atlas of this world, including a wealth of information on the different periods of its history.
It features timelines, elements on peoples and sociology, fauna, flora, gastronomy, literature, expressions, and more.
As an author of novels and short stories, I am currently working on the narrative of a first volume about the adventures that take place on this imaginary planet.
As a geography enthusiast, I also create maps of existing territories.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn humility, put my ego aside, and adapt to who I was:
Just another mammal on a planet in infinite space.
I had to understand and accept that I could never change the world for the better because the better is the enemy of the good.
I had to realize that I would never have enough time to save humanity, so I focused on my own needs, which bring me serenity and ultimately, on a small scale, ease my existence and anxiety. I also learned to protect myself from predation.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am the father of three children. They have helped me grow as much as I have. When you learn to survive so that the people you love can survive, then you know love. True love.
Placing the importance of your choices after the survival and growth of your children is true resilience.
