We recently connected with Emily Hollingshed and have shared our conversation below.
Emily , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I grew up with a good back bone & parents that pushed me. I graduated Highschool, and went straight to work as a CNA at a big hospital in Tulsa. I started doing shows, and more and more and decided I was going to risk it all, and my future by going full time as a musician. Since then- the best, but scariest decision I ever could have made for myself, it has been a roller coaster of emotions, highs and lows in this business, but I couldn’t be more grateful and hopeful for what the future has to hold.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up with my papa in picking circles, around that old country and outlaw music. I also lead worship at my old church for a while, and got a backbone in leading people.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding my music career.
I make my money all through myself, music & merch. It’s a hard thing to do as a 19 year old, starting out, but now as a 21 year old, it still is difficult, but I wake up everyday with a voice in the back of my head telling me to wake up & start the grind.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
There’s so many ups & downs in this business, and I have always been super blessed to have made rent, but have learn to live poor, so I won’t be poor.
