We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Blythe Christopher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Blythe below.
Blythe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I have been upcycling materials my whole life. I realized all the upcycle artists I admire struggle to find capital and to scale their business. I want to help others source their materials and re-invest in their communities. As an upcycle designer, I am always looking for “trash” that I can redesign, reimagine for a purpose. It keeps materials out of our local landfills and keeps my cost of goods low. I strive for 90% upcycled items. I knew it was a worthwhile endeavor when I see someone’s eyes light up when they purchase an upcycled item. It is a revelation that something beautiful and useful was sourced from “trash”.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been sewing and crafting since my teens. I always find scraps or leftovers that I can use to make a beautiful reimagined garment. I love helping other artists reach their potential with technical advice, sourcing ideas, and establishing their market presence. I provide support for other artists as well as upcycled products. I established a community of upcycle artists that help each other with advice, support, and funds from our decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). We started with a small fund and staked the amount on the blockchain to increase our funds to support current and new artists. I am most proud of the community we are building.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I encourage artists to utilize NFTs! It is a great way for fans to support their work and invest in their growth. They are fun to collect!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is watching the behavior change of folks who don’t really understand upcycling. It’s incredibly satisfying to see people challenge their preconceived notions about waste and resourcefulness, and to witness their newfound appreciation for creativity and sustainability. This transformation often sparks a ripple effect, encouraging them to make conscious choices in their daily lives, reducing their environmental impact, and embracing a more mindful approach to consumption.
