We recently connected with Arielle And Jeanine Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Arielle and Jeanine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
At A Knot That Binds, our mission is rooted in something deeply personal—family, creativity, and connection.
It all started with a simple idea between a mother and daughter: what if we could turn our love for creating into something others could feel confident and beautiful wearing? I (Arielle) had always loved headbands, and my mom (Jeanine) had the sewing skills to bring them to life. What began as a fun passion project quickly grew into something more—a way to spread joy, celebrate individuality, and build a community around handmade, intentional pieces.
Our mission is to help people feel seen and celebrated through something as small—but impactful—as a headband. We believe accessories should do more than just look cute (though they should definitely do that, too!). They should make you feel empowered, stylish, and 100% yourself.
Each headband is handmade by us in Indianapolis, with careful attention to detail, color, comfort, and quality. We think about how it will feel on your head. How it might make you stand a little taller. How it could add the perfect finishing touch to your everyday look or give you that boost of confidence before a big meeting.
What makes this mission so meaningful is that it’s built on love—between a mom and daughter, between maker and wearer, and between every person who chooses to support our small business. We’re not just selling accessories—we’re sharing a piece of our story and inviting others to share theirs, too.
So when we say “A Knot That Binds,” we’re not just talking about headbands. We’re talking about the beautiful threads that connect us all.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Our story started in the most personal way: as a shared creative outlet between two women who love fashion, beauty, and each other. I (Arielle) have always loved how the right accessory can make you feel confident and put-together—even on the messiest hair day. My mom (Jeanine) has years of sewing experience and a talent for craftsmanship. One day, we had the idea to start making headbands together. What began as a fun project in our kitchen turned into a small business rooted in love, creativity, and the joy of helping others feel like the best version of themselves.
What we make: We handcraft high-quality, comfortable headbands in a range of colors, prints, and textures—each one designed to add a pop of personality to your everyday look. From bold statements to soft neutrals, we have something for everyone. Our headbands aren’t mass-produced—they’re made with care, intention, and a whole lot of love.
What we offer beyond the product: We don’t just make cute headbands—we solve the “I don’t know what to do with my hair” problem. We help our customers feel polished on the days when their hair won’t cooperate, confident in a meeting or on a night out, and a little more like themselves, even when they’re just running errands. Our pieces are for anyone who wants to look effortlessly put-together without overthinking it.
What sets us apart: What makes us different is the heart behind every piece. We’re not a big brand or a faceless store—we’re real people. Every single headband is designed, sewn, and packaged by us. When you support A Knot That Binds, you’re supporting a family business that values quality, connection, and celebrating individuality. Our customers tell us all the time how they can feel the difference—and that’s exactly the energy we hope to put out into the world.
What we’re proud of: We’re incredibly proud that what started as a passion project has grown into something so meaningful. We’ve had the honor of seeing our headbands worn to weddings, baby showers, job interviews, and lazy Sundays alike. The fact that something we created with our own hands plays a part in our customers’ everyday lives? That’s something we’ll never take for granted.
What we want you to know: We believe in beauty that feels good. In self-expression that doesn’t need permission. And in the power of small businesses to build real, human connection. Whether you’re a longtime supporter or just discovering us—thank you. We’re so glad you’re here, and we hope our pieces make you feel as amazing as you truly are.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped us build our reputation? Honestly—it’s connection.
We’ve been lucky to build genuine relationships with our customers, especially during market season. Being out there in person, setting up our booth, chatting with people face-to-face—it’s where the magic happens. It gives people the chance to see who we are, put a face to our brand, and understand the heart behind what we do. And for us, it’s so much more than just selling a product—it’s hearing someone’s story, learning why they’re drawn to a certain print, or seeing their smile when they find a headband that just fits their vibe.
Those conversations are what stick with us and have helped us build a brand that people trust. We’ve had countless customers tell us, “I wore this on a hard day and it made me feel better,” or, “This reminds me of my grandma who always wore headbands.” That kind of feedback means everything.
We also think people have connected with our bold, fun prints and the care we put into choosing every fabric. Our goal is to make headbands that are both eye-catching and comfortable—you shouldn’t have to sacrifice one for the other. Whether it’s a vibrant floral, a playful pattern, or a rich neutral, each design is chosen with intention. We want our pieces to feel good, look good, and spark a little joy.
At the end of the day, we think our reputation has grown because we show up with authenticity, creativity, and a whole lot of heart—and we’re proud that people feel that in our work.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
The story of how I met my cofounder is a little different from most—because she’s also my mom.
A Knot That Binds was born out of the bond we’ve shared my whole life. We’ve always been close—creatively, emotionally, and just in the way we move through the world. From an early age, we connected over little shared rituals: shopping trips, crafting projects, or just swapping outfit ideas. That closeness has always been something we intentionally nurtured, and it naturally became the foundation for our business.
I (Arielle) had always been drawn to headbands and accessories—how something so simple could transform a look or boost confidence. My mom (Jeanine) has an incredible eye for detail and a deep love for sewing and creating. One day, we just looked at each other and said, “What if we did this together?” And we did.
What started as a few handmade headbands at the kitchen table quickly turned into a real business—one where we each bring something special to the table. I handle most of the design inspiration and customer connection, and my mom brings it all to life with her sewing talent and creative precision. There’s this really beautiful unspoken rhythm we have—it’s not always perfect, but it’s built on trust, deep respect, and love.
The name A Knot That Binds isn’t just about headbands. It’s about our relationship. It’s about the way family, creativity, and shared vision can bind people together. That’s the energy we try to put into everything we create—and we hope people can feel that same warmth and connection when they wear one of our pieces.
