We were lucky to catch up with Erin Kelley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erin, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
House of Muses is a non-profit street ministry out of Cleveland, Ohio. We focus on art and media to help us accomplish our goal. Our main mission is to act out God’s Word and become “Fishers of Men” by offering bible based teachings and resources. Here, we aren’t building a following, but we are building an army.
We understand the importance of not just reading the Word, but also understanding it for yourself to gain real keys for any breakthrough. We want our community to have the power for individual, family, and generational breakthroughs. His Word reminds us, “A foolish man knoweth not…” so we must be rooted in His Word.
There’s the world’s system and then God’s system. God is not of this world, nor are his wonders and abilities. In Genesis, the Lord reminds us he will supply all our needs: “If I take care of the birds, do you not believe that I will take care of you.” God takes care of his own.
This mission was honestly given to me by God Himself. I can’t really explain it better than that. I was once in the world and struggling mentally, physically, and even financially. Once I gave not only myself but my business to God, so much changed for me. The mission came out of my own testimony and freedom from the things that had burdened me.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Erin Kelley. I also go by Lady Legend. I am a local Designer, Poet, Writer, Creative Director, and Disciple of the Gospel. All of my work and businesses are a reflection of my life and especially my faith. I am a devoted Christian. My art is an extension of how I see family, love, life, and even faith before and after finding Christ. I am simply an emerging Artist and Child of God eager to share my testimony. God has given us all gifts to use to extend the Kingdom of God. This is how I use mine.
My brand, House of Muses, is a faith-based lifestyle brand that offers content and resources in building a relationship with God. We use our Digital Media platform, Muse Media, to share visual arts, monthly devotionals, and resources along with highlighting the local and growing art, literary art, and agricultural community. Bible Babes, our women’s and young lady book club, is an opportunity for young Women of God to come together to learn, read, dissect, and apply the Word of God to our lives. The goal with the club is to create Women of God who are good stewards of their gifts.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
This is not about me and what I want, but about the message God is trying to get to His Children. When I first started this business, although the mission was always to be a resource and create community, I was leading this initiative out of my own will and expectation for what I wanted things to be and look like. I had never considered poetry as a means of reaching people, creating connections, and developing my platform. I had to be humbled by God. I had the degree, drive, vision, and even the business plan, but it wasn’t until I surrendered all those things to God that things began to change for me. The dream I had since college was beginning to happen in a matter of months to a year. I am and my businesses are a testimony to what can happen for you when you allow God to lead your life. When I first got in church, the verse that I leaned on the most was, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”Matthew 6:33

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe what has gotten me this far is, first, me following God’s plan and purpose for my life; but also my heart posture when entering the communities I look to serve. I allow God to lead me in all my decisions. I consider His people and how I can be a resource to them, remembering when I was at my lowest, how I felt, but also how I got out of that place.
