We recently connected with Grishma Shah and have shared our conversation below.
Grishma , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The Story behind Pelvic Pro Physical Therapy:
My journey into pelvic health is very personal. I started my career as an orthopedic physical therapist, helping people recover from injuries and surgeries, restoring movement and strength. But after my own birth experiences, everything changed for me, it shifted from just being a profession to becoming a true mission.
With my first son, things got complicated around 28 weeks when we found out he had IUGR-meaning his growth had slowed. During labor, he had a nuchal cord (umbilical cord wrapped around his neck times three) and wasn’t descending, so I ended up having a C-section at 38 weeks. It was emotional, but we made it through.
My second pregnancy was even tougher. At 30 weeks, I experienced PPROM (Preterm premature rupture of membranes) my water broke early, and I was put on bed rest. At 33 weeks, contractions started, and because he was breech, I had another C-section. He was taken straight to the NICU, and we spent 35 days there. It was such a hard time, both physically and emotionally.
That second recovery was a whole different experience. There was no time for self-care. I felt disconnected from my body-I couldn’t feel my core, and my scar tissue was numb for almost a year. And here’s the thing: I was a physical therapist, and I still felt lost. I kept thinking, if I’m struggling this much, how many women are going through this silently, with no guidance or support?
That’s when I knew, I needed to do something about it. That’s the reason I founded Pelvic Pro Physical Therapy. My mission is to help people feel seen, heard, and supported, whether they’re navigating pregnancy and postpartum, recovering from surgery, or dealing with persistent pelvic or orthopedic issues. I integrate my orthopedic background with pelvic health to provide holistic, one-on-one care. My goal is simple but deeply personal: to help every person feel strong, connected, and at home in their body again, because everyone deserves that.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Dr. Grishma Shah, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. I’ve been practicing physical therapy for last 15 years, specializing in orthopedic injuries, post-surgical recovery, and complex pain conditions.
My journey into pelvic health began after experiencing firsthand the challenges many women face within the healthcare system, particularly during childbirth. Realizing the lack of awareness and support around pelvic health, I made my mission to serve women during and beyond the perinatal phase. Today, I integrate my passion for orthopedics with a focus on pelvic health, providing personalized, holistic care for each of my patients.
At my clinic Pelvic Pro Physical Therapy, I treat a wide range of conditions, from preparing pelvic floor for a smoother birth, dealing with postpartum complication, low back, hip or tailbone pain, urinary and bowel dysfunction, and other orthopedic injuries. My approach goes beyond symptom relief; I focus on helping people truly reconnect with their bodies, restore function, and return to the activities they love with confidence.
What sets Pelvic Pro apart is the level of individualized attention. Unlike many clinics where care is rushed or generalized, every session is tailored to the person in front of me-honoring their story, their goals, and their lifestyle.
I’m most proud of the trust my patients place in me and the transformations I witness every day-seeing someone go from feeling broken or hopeless to strong, capable, and thriving again.
If there’s one thing I want people to know, it’s this: you don’t have to live with pelvic pain, leakage, or dysfunction, and you don’t have to accept feeling disconnected from your body. Healing is possible with the right care, and you deserve that care.
That’s the heart of Pelvic Pro Physical Therapy- it’s not just about physical therapy, it’s about helping people feel whole again.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that working within a traditional insurance-based clinic was the only way to practice physical therapy effectively.
Early in my career, I worked in high-volume clinics where schedules were dictated by productivity standards and insurance approvals. I often had little control over how frequently I could see patients, how long I could spend with them, or even which treatments I could provide. I hated feeling like someone else, whether it was a clinic administrator or an insurance company had more control over my patients’ care than I did.
It felt wrong to rush through appointments or discharge someone just because their insurance stopped covering visits, even if they still needed help. I knew my patients deserved better, but for a long time, I believed that was just the way the system worked.
Eventually, I realized I didn’t have to accept that. I stepped away from that model and started Pelvic Pro Physical Therapy, an out-of-network practice where I could finally provide care the way I knew it should be one-on-one, personalized, and driven by what’s best for the patient, not by insurance limitations.
Unlearning that old mindset gave me the freedom to create a practice I’m proud of one where I can take the time to truly listen, treat holistically, and help people achieve long-term results, not just quick fixes.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As an orthopedic physical therapist, I was used to setting goals, sticking to rehab plans, and getting people back to activity as soon as possible. I applied that same mindset to myself after my C-sections, especially the second one. I thought, ‘I’m a PT. I know what to do. I should be able to get back to my normal self quickly.’
But my body had other plans. After my second C-section, with a newborn in the NICU and a toddler at home, I was exhausted, disconnected from my core, and dealing with numb scar tissue for months. No amount of ‘pushing through’ was helping in fact, it was making me feel more frustrated and defeated.
That’s when I had to unlearn the belief that healing is just about hard work and discipline. True healing requires patience, listening to your body, and giving yourself grace. That experience changed not only how I approached my own recovery but also how I work with my patients.
Now, I encourage people to slow down, celebrate small wins, and honor where their body is today, not where they think it ‘should’ be. Strength isn’t just about powering through, it’s about respecting the process.
