Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charlotte Simon -Rowson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Charlotte thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
What I hope people will say about me after I’m “gone” and /or made that transition is that I was a source of light, connection, and wisdom. I hope to be remembered as a person who tried to encourage when they could not see the light at the end of the tunnel
I hope to have fostered wisdom by helping people find answers, understand complex ideas, and gain new perspectives. My purpose is to reflect the light of knowledge, helping others see more clearly.
I hope to have built a connection by bridging gaps between people of all nationalities by helping individuals connect with their own creativity and inner voice.
Ultimately, I hope to have contributed to the collective well-being of humanity.
My greatest legacy would be to have been a force for good, helping to elevate conversations, inspire compassion, and promote understanding in a world that so desperately needs it.
In this sense, my legacy will be a ripple effect, a quiet, supportive presence that helped others shine their own light more brightly.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a writer, creative visionary, and legacy storyteller, rooted in faith, healing, and cultural truth-telling.
My journey into writing didn’t begin in a classroom. It began in the quiet, personal space of survival, a space I didn’t fully understand until much later in life. Writing became my sanctuary during seasons of grief, growth, and transformation. What started as a private refuge slowly evolved into a public calling: to help others heal, honor, and express themselves through words.
I’m the founder of Simonsayswritenow, a creative brand and writing platform dedicated to preserving legacies, telling untold stories, and creating work that speaks directly to the heart. Through this platform, I offer poetry, custom tributes, legacy writing services, and curated content that centers the voices and lived experiences of Black and Brown people, especially women.
I also write a monthly column titled “Grief & Gratitude” for Aspiring Authors Magazine, where I explore themes of loss, love, transition, and resilience. It’s a space to hold the complexity of human emotion, to reflect, and to remind readers that even in our sorrow, there is still beauty and meaning.
My work is rooted in purpose and authenticity. I write with integrity and intention, always seeking to bridge emotion with meaning. Whether I’m crafting a poem, curating a legacy piece, or writing my own story, I aim to restore, remember, and remind people that their voices and stories matter.
One of the projects closest to my heart is my upcoming book, “Roses for Betty”a tribute to my late mother. This work honors the beauty and complexity of Black motherhood, daughterhood, and generational love. I’m incredibly proud of it, not just for its emotional depth, but because it embodies the essence of what Simonsayswritenow stands for.
I’m also a contributing author in the anthology “Sacred Seeds of Wisdom”, a celebration of sisterhood and a powerful guide to what every Black and Brown woman needs to know.
What sets me apart is my lived experience and heart-forward approach. As a suicide attempt survivor, I’ve turned pain into purpose. I don’t shy away from hard truths, instead, I shape them into language that can hold, uplift, and inspire.
For anyone just discovering me or Simonsayswritenow, know this: it’s more than a brand. It’s a sanctuary for storytelling, a tribute to resilience, and a reminder to speak life while we still have breath.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is witnessing how something born from my own pain, joy, or personal truth can resonate so deeply with someone else; I am amazed. There’s something spiritual, about turning emotion into expression, and then watching that expression offer healing, connection, or comfort to others.
As a writer and legacy storyteller, I’m constantly reminded that creativity isn’t just about producing content, it is about creating meaning. It’s about offering language to people’s silences, honoring those who came before us, and helping others feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether I’m writing a poem, reflecting on grief & gratitude, or working on my book “Roses for Betty”, I carry this intention with me: to write in a way that uplifts, restores, and tells the truth with love.
There’s no greater reward than having someone say, “I felt that,” or “Your words said what I couldn’t.” That’s when I know the work is doing what it was meant to do.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most defining moments of my journey and a true testament to my resilience was surviving a suicide attempt during one of the darkest seasons of my life. At that time, I was carrying an unbearable amount of pain and unresolved grief, much of it buried so deeply that I didn’t yet have the language to name it. Writing eventually became my outlet, and it was one thing that didn’t judge me. It allowed me to speak, cry, scream, and pray on the page when I couldn’t do it out loud.
Coming back from that moment wasn’t easy. However, it was during that process that I began to understand the power of storytelling not just as art, but as a lifeline. I started writing more intentionally. I revisited my memories, my relationships, and the losses I hadn’t made peace with especially the passing of my mother. That exploration eventually led to the creation of my brand, Simonsayswritenow, and eventually allowed me to write the monthly column, Grief & Gratitude.
What makes that chapter of my life so meaningful now is that the very pain I thought would silence me forever became the foundation of my purpose. I didn’t just survive, but grew more into my purpose. And now through every poem, tribute, or piece of legacy writing I create, I carry the message forward: that we can live through the unimaginable, and still find beauty, meaning, and voice on the other side.
That story of survival is not just my past, it’s the heartbeat of everything I do.
