Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marisa King. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Marisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful it takes perseverance. It takes passion… It is the result of hard work, failure, focus and persistence. Success is a journey. Your definition of success may vary, but you might define it as being fulfilled, happy, safe, healthy, and loved; all of that is success to me. In order to be successful, you must develop a growth mindset, pay attention to and manage your emotions, believe in yourself, don’t give up, practice self-care, seek opportunities to grow, challenge your self, stay hungry, stay motivated, set achievable goals, be willing to change, adapt and adjust as needed, create a strong support system around you for the different aspects of your life and avoid burnout… Again, that goes back to practicing self-care.
Marisa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So… I am a servant, I have always been one to serve others and aid them on their journey whether it be through business and brand development, brand marketing, public relations, my women’s empowerment events or even now with my latest venture, a restaurant; I seek to serve people literally and figuratively.
With my education in both marketing and business leadership, I have been doing marketing and business development for over 20 years at this point, helping people bring their dreams to reality, take their brands to the next level and give back to the community. I got into this field by working hands on in it and seeing that there was a void I could fill and a genuine love and talent I could bring to my clients and their visions. I launched my own marketing, pr and event firm in 2003 to do just that. I help my clients solve their problems whether it be needed more exposure, obtaining partnerships, booking gigs, rebranding, developing their business from scratch or launching new divisions. With my passion, I help women connect the dots to achieve their goals, to integrate their work and personal lives and to find their happy.
In 2020, I merged my marketing firm with another and we launched Collective Twenty Three which is a brand elevation agency truly focused on taking our clients to the next level by any means necessary. On top of that in 2021, myself and my 2 partners, Aasiya Muslim and LaShonia Turner embarked on a new venture, Scrum-did-dly-ump-tious, which is a upscale yet whimsical brunch restaurant specializing in vibe dining and serving up indulgent comfort food, that is set to open September 2022 in Downtown Lawrenceville (Atlanta Metro Area).
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that my reputation has been built on honesty, exemplary customer service and delivering high quality products and services. This leads to word of mouth marketing which is invaluable and has sustained me for two decades.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Treat everyone on your team the same way from the janitor to the CEO. Be transparent, clear and concise with your expectations and hold everyone accountable. Focus on team building, provide incentives and create, nurture and maintain a company culture that makes people want to get out of the bed to come to work everyday.
