We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stacy Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stacy below.
Stacy , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Lotus Laser Aesthetics-
The lotus has symbology that goes way back. It is a flower that blooms from the mud. In essence, one can imagine the mud as life’s struggles, and overcoming those struggles is a beautiful thing.
I had recently lost my second husband to cancer (my first one also passed from cancer). I was burnt out of teacher after 20 years, and my son was off to college soon. I needed something new to make me happy to go to work.
I fell in love with laser hair removal as a client and too wanted to offer that great service and experience to others. The school year ended in 2023 and I was off and running. Quickly, I checked into signing up for classes, knowing I wasn’t going back to teaching, to become a laser technician. There, I also fell in love with laser tattoo removal.
At that time no one offered tattoo removal in the area, so I felt the time was right to jump into the biz. From there, Lotus Laser Aesthetics.
Using the growing from the mud analogy, the lotus spoke to me. I wanted laser aesthetics in my name so people would quickly know I was a laser company offering aesthetic services. I think being able to tell what a business is by it’s name is an important key to success, especially a small business just coming on the scene.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I use lasers in my practice for more than just laser hair removal and tattoo removal. I also offer pigment correction (eliminating brown spots on the skin), vascular lesion treatments (spider veins), photofacials, and hydrafacials. I also offering treatments for acne and acne scarring.
I love providing services that help people feel better about themselves. It’s a super fun industry to be in. I meet so many cool people.
What sets me apart from others in the industry is that my focus about my clients not money. I try hard to be competitively priced for the area and also offer payment plans. I also believe in honesty. I never, ever over-promise and try hard to set realistic expectations. If I don’t think someone will have success, I won’t take their money and provide a service they won’t get much out of.
I also went to school to be a laser technician, many people who perform laser services haven’t had more than a day of training from the company that sold them their laser. Laser laws are still quite gray and due to that, many people in many states are going to people that don’t have a lot of knowledge of the process and mechanics. I’ve seen many people being over-promised results, not using industry standards, and some actually harmed from the laser technician before coming to me.

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
The aesthetics field, like many ebbs and flows. I have great months and months I barely scrape by. The investment is huge- physically, emotionally, and financially. I’m working hard to make money to keep me afloat and to have some stashed away in case a rainy day pulls me back. I am definitely not playing with a fortune, but I’m keeping at it. I’ve been in the business 2 1/2 years now. My advice is to never stop pushing yourself and your brand. Keep up the enthusiasm, your clients feel it. Keep trying new things while always watching your budget, but you can’t make money without spending it. Do your research! No matter how much research I do, I feel like it is never enough. You need to constantly keep learning and evolving in the business world. You need to learn to weigh pros and cons better than you ever have before.

Speaking of doing research and pros and cons, I took a class through the UofM for marketing to keep building the business… and digital is where it’s at, especially in this field. But, as one learns the hard way, I realize now the class wasn’t for me. I taught me the basics but went in directions that didn’t quite fit my path. Spending money on that class is a bit of a regret, but I have dusted myself and am pushing to learn even more about the things we just touched on in class. “Youtube University” is a huge bonus to people in this day and age.
