Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandra DeMattia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexandra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve been creating since I was 12. Music was my first love—I was uploading to YouTube before most people even had accounts, and I was the first in my friend group to get on Instagram when it launched. I’ve always had a natural understanding of social media and how powerful it can be.
As I grew my music career, I started to notice something: social media was opening more doors than anything else. Brand partnerships were bringing in more income than live shows. By 25, I was living in LA, still chasing the music dream but craving something more. On the side, I found myself running the Instagram for a hair salon and two stylists who worked there.
I realized not only was I good at it—I genuinely enjoyed it. So, I took a step back from music to focus on growing my own platforms, joining ambassador programs, and rebranding with content I actually wanted to create and consume.
When I moved back to the East Coast, I began focusing solely on my own social media presence. That’s when people around me—friends, acquaintances—started asking if I could manage their business accounts too. That was my lightbulb moment: I could build something of my own.
I took the leap, sat down with a blank notebook, and one month later—Strategy By AD was born: a social media and brand strategy agency designed specifically for small businesses.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My company, Strategy by AD, is a social media and brand consulting agency specifically built for small businesses. I know firsthand how many hats small business owners have to wear, and being a social media manager shouldn’t have to be one of them. That said, in today’s world, having a strong social presence isn’t optional; it’s essential. That’s where I come in.
I work closely with business owners to evaluate where their brand stands and identify areas for growth. From there, I completely refresh their digital presence, elevating their social media in a way that attracts new clients, connects with their ideal audience, and aligns with their long-term business goals.
What sets me apart is that I’m not just someone who understands social media from the outside. I live and breathe this space daily. As a content creator and influencer myself, I’ve grown my own platforms organically and built a business through social, so clients are getting someone deeply immersed in the industry.
What I’m most proud of is helping small businesses feel seen, supported, and confident online. I want potential clients and followers to know that I truly care about storytelling, strategy, and showing up authentically because that’s what drives real results.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The majority of my following originally came from my music. I’m so grateful that so many of them have stuck around as I’ve pivoted into a new chapter. I still have a lot of unreleased music in the vault, and I think they’re patiently waiting—but they’ve been incredibly supportive and loving as I’ve stepped into this new space.
A loyal audience is everything, and I believe I built that by being real and sharing my journey over the years. I’m 28 now, and I’ve been doing this since I was 12—it truly feels like we’ve grown up together.
My biggest advice? Value your audience. Be honest with them. Authenticity builds trust, and that trust is what keeps people coming back—whether you’re creating music, content, or building a brand.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Honestly, the past few years have felt like one big pivot. For so long, I boxed myself into this one path—I didn’t go to college, and I truly believed that if I didn’t “make it” in music, I’d somehow failed. But eventually, I reached a point where I wasn’t happy or fulfilled anymore. It was scary. I had convinced myself that music was the only thing I was capable of.
What’s wild is that I didn’t even realize the skills I had developed through social media along the way. I’m so grateful the opportunity to explore that space fell into my lap. It gave me the chance to discover another passion and build something entirely new—on my own terms.
