We caught up with the brilliant and insightful JP Lambiase a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
JP, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I truly believe success comes from the mindset and drive to achieve realistic goals, persevere during tough times and reward yourself during milestones of hard work. It is important to have the expectation to fail at times and be okay to accept slow growth. Enjoy what you do, be passionate about your goals and respect the process you are on.
JP, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Since a child I loved to entertain people and found film a way to express my ideas and become a creative outlet. YouTube became an amazing platform to upload my work to and as you learn and grow about yourself you fine-tune your vision and goals. After 10 plus years of consistently uploading to YouTube, it has truly been a passion amongst the highs and lows of being on the internet for such a long time. We found a niche in the food category online and have stood out amongst the competition with our personalities, daring creations and constantly thinking outside of the box on what we can do with food and how to present it in an entertaining way. We like to be known as a comedy cooking duo of the 21st century and continue to experience, learn and grow in the category of food.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is to focus on what fulfills you and not necessarily what will get views. Being fulfilled in this industry guides your creative outlook, vision, and focus. Regardless of what would get views and pays the bills, the passion behind it can come across as transparent and your audience will see it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Within the first 8 months of starting and growing a channel on YouTube, we were demonetized by a malicious hacker while our channel was still relatively small. We had no hopes of earning a penny on YouTube after demonetization kicked in. We even lost the ability to upload custom thumbnails so the channel as a whole looked awful. We never stopped uploading content and stuck to a schedule of 1 video per week every Sunday. After another year went by YouTube took notice of our consistency and quality content and lifted the demonetization ban along with tweet us out Happy National Junk Food Day! It was very rewarding and worth the effort and hard work.
