Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Billy Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Billy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. I had a desire to pursue a career in entertainment. I started with music and after making the rounds with talent shows, singing groups, and bands…there was only so far you could go. I decided it was time to leave. I had a few friends that had already headed west, so with my last $150, i bought a one way bus ticket to Los Angeles, Ca and never looked back.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I arrived in Los Angeles in 1991, I hit the studio and did background vocals for a few artist and worked as backup dancer/choreographer. I spent some time working at a couple of record labels and eventually landed a record deal with an independent label. I recorded an album, but due to the label’s financial backer passing away, it sat on the shelf. With the new down time, I taught martial arts, which created the transition to film/tv by way of stunts and then acting. I’ve worked on several projects large and small and found action design to be a stand out for me. I enjoy creating in-your-face action sequences.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I find the most rewarding aspect to being an artist/creative is the opportunity to breathe life into an idea and giving birth to something phenomenal that people enjoy.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish that the technology we have today existed back in the 90’s, it would have made a tremendous difference. I would have cranked out project like a mad man…lol
